  1. I've started making stock music, and make a few $100 bit of passive cash from there - licensing them like $10-$20 a pop. I have been looking into going much further down this rabbit hole as it does seem possible to full time stock music, and passive income is always nice. Musicians are in a position where they need a lot of revenue streams. It's easier to get into making sample packs/stock music/making presets/ etc etc things like that than to make money based off people buying your music.
  2. These days it seems he prefers to shift his style between releases rather than do 180s like he did in the 90s.
  3. This is just a guess but I think now he is going back into semi-hibernation to focus on making new tracks. I bet the next time he starts releasing he will have finished a few EPs/LP's... in a few years.
  4. Time Flies. This album has been around almost as long as the gap between The Tuss releases and Syro.... over 7 years. That's like 1992 aphex to 1999 windowlicker. Within which Aphex changed his style like 5 times.
  5. Yeah when I read that it was an old song, it made me question my understanding of what old means in relation to the internet and music releasing. At this point Syro no longer feels like a recent album.
  6. I've been finding awesome music production tools online recently. I really hadn't looked since like 2015 and it was lackluster then. But now with Ai suddenly a lot of awesome online tools are cropping up like the infinite drum machine: https://experiments.withgoogle.com/ai/drum-machine/view/ Which is not THAT new anymore, but still. I am wanting to find more. What is interesting about online tools are ones that can only be used online. For example ai based ones that wouldn't be able to run on your computer, but remotely you gain access to it. Question: I may be remembering this wrong, but I remember reading that there were websites starting to pop up where you could upload your midi or whatever, and it would play that midi thru analog equipment like a prophet, record it, then send the result back to you. If not, that would be awesome! Imagine if someone with a ton of this kind of equipment ( Like Aphex) started a service that did this?... actually makes me wonder if this was the surprise Joyrex was talking about from Richard, like... over 5 years ago now.
  7. It was probably a tribute thing. Even more obvious on that EP is the track "Donald" and Aphex Twin's "Saint Michaels Mount" off Drukqs
  8. It's one of those things that I didn't know I'd want till I saw it. It's about unique perspective on something I like. That you don't see until someone shows it to you. So it's like seeing it from a new angle. Even if it's a niche angle. When then makes me feel I really want to look into it more (as a layperson). Therefore the "you should write a book" comment. And you are right. A collaborative book would probably be the best way to go about it.
  9. TL;DR I've always wanted to read a book on IDM/Braindance as the genre is older than I am and have always wondered what it was like to have just discovered the artists in the early to mid 90s. What was the transformation of these talented artists from "he/she makes great original music" to "he/she is an icon that everyone else is required to at least listen to within their genre ".
  10. This makes me wish there was an IDM/Braindance/etc Historian and/or historian website that showcases the music in both a historical and analytical context. I think you are in a unique position (with a few other people) to where you could write an all encompassing "pop-sci" type book at some point on all these aspects, the history, context, online culture, them feedbacking into each other, etc etc. How Artists shaped and changed both the online culture as time goes on. etc etc. And you have a nice explanatory and clear writing style that is easy to understand... well I think I understood most of what I have read. I have only read half of it so far on my kindle. Not that you need to write a book as your thesis already feels like a book, but that you definitely could write one if you so wish. I'd buy it. I feel like there is enough "there, there" now for that kind of book that looks at IDM/Braindance as a whole and provides context.
  11. The way you worded the topic makes me wanna see Al play Harry Radcliffe in a biopic of Daniel Radcliffe. Then they can say they are the first people to play each other in seperate biopics.
  12. Badass! Are you the first one to do this? Now I have the sudden urge to look for Master Thesis' on my favorite music artists. Lol. Also, I've always liked the term Braindance. Much more creative than IDM.
  13. Cnn sucks. But let's not equate CNN and Fox News like they're two equally bad sides of the same coin. They're not. One is far far worse.
  14. Democrat Party has always desperately needed training or an attitude change or something in order to counter right wing tactics. Which in most countries is easy because all you have to do is point out that many are fascist or borderline fascist and it's readily apparent in the way they talk, conduct themselves, and blatantly dog whistle all day. But for whatever reason the Democrats refuse to call them out so often when it is so glaringly obvious. To the point where it makes me wonder if they don't want America to swing too far left or something. So they pretend like right-wingers are a valuable part of the conversation. Criticizing USA style Republicanism is low hanging fruit. Like 1 foot above the ground level low hanging fruit, and the democrats still can't reach it. At the end of the day there is no excuse for conservatives to have as much power as they do and yet here we are.
  15. i just deleted it. I assume people here havve already seen it or don't care for whatever reason but yeah
  16. I love this track from Qebrus: Question - are there any other tracks that have a similar feel to "Vlcnmtr"? I really want more tracks that at least resemble it.
  17. FLOL. This is exactly how I felt about both of them. I think for me I think it depends on how much you like the characters over how good the plot was. For both. Cowboy Bebop live shined for me when they were just out doing random bounties. The Viscious thing needed to be stretched out for season 2 and of course done better. With it's cancellation it is a bummer for me as i felt in better hands the characters would have shined enough for people to think it were good.
  18. After watching it twice. I realized that this movie is supposed to be an epilogue for Neo and Trinity. A lot of people were disappointed that it didn't set up the universe for bigger and better heights. But the whole movie is literally Neo saying he is done fighting and just wants to go retire with Trinity. But also work on freeing people who want or need to be free. However his time as the One is over. I was thinking another war was coming. But old Niobi wasn't saying war was coming, she was saying that the noise in the matrix was just as bad as the noise of war. As in, yeah you are not in the matrix, but what you are walking into may be no better. The reason I think this is because Lana made the movie grieving over her parents both. So she felt the need to take the ending of the third movie and give Neo and Trinity a happily ever after. Because that is something she can control. Visiting old characters and making them 'happy' and alive.
  19. That is actually a better descriptor of it than roses in garbage. But it's like.. sweet gasoline. Lol. It's kind of a mindfuck when I smelled it. I sat there for like 10 minutes just thinking about how weird everything was smelling. Yeah you're right. I guess I just needed someone to tell me to go do the damn thing. Lol https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/wellness/smell-loss-covid-parosmia/2020/11/04/08a24c26-1e05-11eb-b532-05c751cd5dc2_story.html Telling me what I already knew. Gahhh.
  20. Thx for the feedback. Yeah I don't know. I've contacted all my family I was around and no one has gotten sick. So I could have easily got it somewhere else. Assuming it's even covid. I forget sometimes that other viruses and diseases exist.
  21. Question for anyone reading here - consulting the internet hivemind: I definitely caught something visiting my family over the holidays. Two days ago when I woke up I realized everything had this odd smell to them. Like Sweet and Sick combined. Weirdest thing ever. It was profoundly bad weird. Like opening a garbage can that had been sitting in heat for weeks, and finding a mix of roses and moldy decaying garbage. It caused everything to taste off. However I didn't lose taste or smell. Really it just radically shifted. It seems most people who lose sense of smell, everything ends up tasting like cardboard. Not me. It just caused everything to smell rancid. I only tested with two different off shelf tests and got negative. And I was going to go today for the more official one, but when I woke up everything was back to normal. Googling it, I mostly am finding people losing sense of smell and taste still with the new variant, but in my case it was more like my sense of smell was thrown out of wack for a day and a half, making things taste odd. But I didn't really lose sense of taste. Reason I typed all of that out is just to see if anyone has heard of a covid symptoms like this. Has anyone heard of the sense of smell shifting to just something weird BEFORE any symptoms. Like I said, I didn't feel sick at all. But I didn't really eat much due to the lopsided sense of smell.
  22. Well yeah. But the idea is that Ai would be able to do more abstract things, and very quickly. I would rather find an Ai that will look thru all the samples or whatever, then find bits it knows are a specific note, then you have options like putting them together into one folder or something, catagorized by how well it fits the criteria of a specific note, then you can just browse all of the sounds from the get go having tons of them at your fingertips with very little effort.
