    Trees

yeah.. there are great parks and outdoor spaces. these days the city plays whack-a-mole clearing camps out of the parks, sidewalks, medians etc.. there was a big one in laurelhurst park most of last year. eventually got swept but i think it's partially back. there's real problems ballooning in this town. whole west coast is pretty rough in places really. boondockers. but the trees.. yes. epic and everywhere greenery is a nice thing.
  2. damn.that sucks. so sorry to hear this. RIP

my street this fall. all leaves gone now after the leafpocalypse columbia park.. more or less in the neighborhood. i pass it on bike rides on some routes.
  4. saw a report similar to this one just a minute ago on PBS. can't find a link to it anywhere. .but essentially same story. people in surrounding neighborhoods living in often toxic air. no accountability. they pooled their funds and bought an air monitor to analyze the air and report it to whoever and also guard their own safety and protect their kids. russia really is some kind of mafia state in a lot of ways. also, obviously russia isn't alone in this kind of behavior. plenty of towns w/chemical plants, oil/gas processing etc in USA are in and out of the news with eco issues and polluted environments. if/when the protests over navaleny end it'll only be a matter of time until they resume for some other reason. such chaos and wholesale abuse of all the things. wondering if a 'piling on' feeling leads to fueling protests in russia. i think it's part of what happens here in USA but of course varies a lot. edit: also, this.
  5. deru + speedy J stream now. they did it at 11am but the stream was fucked up and only broadcasting half the signal.. so they're doing it again now.
  6. oof. lot's of arrests. MOSCOW (AP) — Chanting slogans against President Vladimir Putin, tens of thousands took to the streets Sunday across Russia to demand the release of jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny, keeping up nationwide protests that have rattled the Kremlin. Nearly 5,000 people were detained by police, according to a monitoring group, and some were beaten. https://apnews.com/article/ap-top-news-moscow-coronavirus-pandemic-arrests-russia-085b16035e9c89ffb9919e4d94a2309c
  7. over the last year i've had some arguments w/people who think lockdowns are too costly and the rona isn't as bad as people say because "look at how many people recover" and even after explaining recovery doesn't always mean recovered since people will have life long complications of various kinds from the rona and that there's still way too many deaths in USA because of all the mixed messaging from the complex of trump goons... and lately arguing that reducing the spread is still the smart thing to do because every time the virus replicates through infection it has the opportunity to mutate.. so if the infection rate is slowed and we lock down etc then it may not mutate as often or as much.. still.. some people stick to their guns and the messaging from trump world of a year ago. so, good luck america! idiocracy sign is getting stronger.
  8. it is so sad and these kinds of accidents happen all the time. idk what the injuries were to Sophie but subdural hematoma is not uncommon. people fall off cliffs on the oregon coast or get sucked out by sneaker waves.. every year. shit just happens sometimes and standing one foot too close to the cliff is all it takes. thinking back about all the times me a bunch of friends did something a little risky or outright stupid and lived to tell about it..
  9. he looks pretty smooth here though.
  10. happened to jesus too. he fell right on to a fucking cross.
  11. cops closed the gate and called reinforcements then opened the gate after the protestors stepped to the side
  12. i hoped March. I'm in 1c in oregon. but it's looking like some time in april is optimistic. I'm figuring it'll be june before i get the 1st jab unless there's major improvements in vaccine quantity and staffing for giving the vaccine.
  13. fuck. how many ways can the gov't fail people? all the ways.. all the ways..
  14. yeah i know. i was trying to do that was well. literally. ?
  15. you literally might literally be a literal music journalist if you literally imagine literal people talking with literal authority about literal things they don't literally understand. literally. but, RIP Sophie. it's terribly sad and tragic to die so young and in an oops way. I hope Sophie wasn't alone when it happened.
  16. jesus. that's so incredibly sad. fuckn tragic
  17. Just watched the Ripper on Netflix. Limited series about the Yorkshire Ripper. They should add to the title so it’s called “The Ripper and also all the cops directing this investigation are fucking morons” Jesus how frustrating and ya know that shit happens the world over for all time.
