  1. 100% agree. most of society is completely and totally addicted to their devices. I have to travel for work regularly. sometimes when I'm sitting in the airport, I look for people not starring down at their phones. there's hardly any of them. everyone is sitting starring head down, looking at the little screen in their hand. we are all addicts to them. this is not like a groundbreaking realization or anything, but as you are getting at here, the psychological impact cannot be understated. especially with children. I have seen my kid grow completely addicted to the tablet. I don't know what to do to stop it either. I mean I grew up playing hours of video games, but there's some difference between looking at a larger television screen that everyone in the room can see, and a fit in your hand screen, where you can have a much larger degree of privacy. there's more of a level of intimacy with a device, and then this feeds some sort of dependency module in our brains, or something like that would be my guess. where is this all heading is what I wonder sometimes. implanting screens in our heads is next, I suppose. this seemed like such a sci-fi idea decades ago, and now I can imagine people lining up to have phones injected into their brains. I'm just glad I grew up before all this started. but for the future generations of humans, yeah, they are gonna be a pretty psychologically messed up bunch.
  2. ah c'mon man...let's just take some blue pills and go back to our day to day lives, then wake up the next day and do it all over again. no going down any rabbit holes...that leads to too many difficult to answer questions I am no expert here. just another dude with random opinions on the internet... but if I were to try and explain in words how the mind is separate than the self, then I may try and use a movie analogy. the mind is like the scriptwriter/director, and the self is the actor. the self is an agent of the mind, can express outwardly what the mind wants it to through words and actions. the script is constantly being written by the mind (i.e., thoughts). whether or not the self acts on the thoughts generated by mind, is largely situational. the mind is the main driver of everything a person does. now the actor (self) can come and go, but mind is always there (unless one "loses" one's mind, ha!). the self changes based on the situation it is in. it is not a constant unchanging thing. therefore there is no permanent self, the permanent self does not exist. aaaand then you can go down the religious rabbit hole about people having souls and shit, and yeah...leave that for the AI thread got it? lol idk man. this is nothing original here. this line of thinking has existed for thousands of years. Greek and Indian philosophers and all that. the key thing is to recognize this yourself, have some sorta a-ha moment where spiritual/philosophical teachings such as this all click into place. otherwise it's all just more text on a screen to read (or page, for those still reading books), and has no real impact whatsoever. anyway, this reminds me that there used to be some really great philosophical discussions on this forum a long time ago. now we old and just post memes, talk politics and shit haha
  3. wrangle that shit in, Mr Tim J. don't let your mind control you. mind is like a monkey, jumping around constantly from thought to thought. gotta be able to slow that down so the mind is blank. takes effort. practice.
  4. nah, it's not. people who get drunk and yell at each other, pick fights, etc. are all unable to see that they are being pulled around by the voice in their head, which doesn't actually exist. you realizing that acting like this isn't the right way to be, is a step in the right direction. the only thing that makes sense as to the "it" (life) thing you mentioned, is humans co-exist as peacefully as possible, not circle down the drain of living with a mentality jam packed with hatred and anger...once you start really being able to look at emotions objectively and questioning things like why is this emotion even here, then you realize that it came from my own head, my own ego created this. if I created this, then I can stop it right now. and that to me is sorta a big key as to what life's all about. being able to have a very high level of self control over thoughts and emotions. this can lead to a higher degree of peace and calm, which we all need to live our lives on this planet. not yelling at the top of our lungs in drunken rages at bars lol.
  5. to me at least it seems, if we are talking about the immediate cause of the horrible deaths and violence we are all bearing witness to right now on a daily basis, then it is hard to deny political/economic/nationalistic reasons are at the forefront as to the "why" this is happening. but if you want to look back at the historical reason to understand what is at the root of the conflict between these 2 groups, then it is hard to deny that religion has played a massive part here. this essay says it much better than I can - https://www.washingtoninstitute.org/policy-analysis/religion-and-israel-palestinian-conflict-cause-consequence-and-cure

  7. definitely want to check this out. for those who liked it, I highly recommend the comics this film is based on. there are several collected volume editions. Vol 1 & 2 are very good. from what I remember about the character, he does discuss about his personal nihilist view of the world quite a bit. the later volumes focus more on a global political story as opposed to the inner thoughts and motivations of the killer.
  8. well I'd say you need to look deeper at the human level, to understand the "why" as to what is motivating people to commit these actions. economic and political decisions are made by people. religion is baked into the heads of the leaders that are making these decisions. for me I start with the people to try and make sense of what causes conflict, try and look at what factors could contribute to their behaviors. the Abrahamic religions promote tribalism, and this has an effect of the people making the decisions. but I get that this is a hypothetical take, difficult to prove and argue for. I am not anti-religion, only think that what it can do to people often times is more harmful than helpful.
  9. I'm sometimes guilty of trying to reverse engineer things I don't quite understand. such as, why in the fuck are they doing this? (the collective "they" here, not just 1 side). the obvious answer is this is a territory dispute. they are fighting each other over land. over a slice of land both sides want for their people. why do they want the land? because both sides believe it is significant within each of their cultures. why is it significant? then comes the elephant in the room - religious reasons. once you pull back enough layers of the onion, the Abrahamic faiths rear their violent heads once again. how many humans have been killed throughout history due to reasons linked to Islam/Christianity/Judaism? impossible to know. isn't part of the point of these religions to spread peace, love, and social order? yet the adherents of these faiths continue to not be able to accomplish this very well. these faiths are strong promoters of tribalism. they all believe they are justified in their actions of committing sins against the other team, in order to get what they want. this seems antagonistic, not peace-promoting (and seems even crazier when you consider these groups all believe in the same monotheistic God). but yeah...shit like this can't usually be said out loud in the room, i.e. this killing and fighting is the fault of religion. it will usually lead to anger and arguing.
  10. he confirmed it's no more old school sampling for him... it's all software synths, korg plugins, and generic trap beats nowadays. he will never go back to the MPC. this is a frustrating article to read: https://www.musicradar.com/news/dj-shadow-interview this is a better article, since he talks a lot about what he was doing back in the '90s: https://www.stereogum.com/2240398/dj-shadow-new-album-unkle-dj-hero-rare-records/interviews/weve-got-a-file-on-you/ it was a good run from him from about '94 - '03. every track he put out had a sense of soul + originality to it. once he moved away from vinyl/tape/vhs samples on an MPC to DAWs, he lost his superpower.
  11. I rarely go, but when I do go to a professional sporting event, I can't help but thinking that this is a massive scam. everything is incredibly overpriced. a decent seat costs in the hundreds. the cheap seats have horrible views, and you're mostly watching a screen from far away. you are crammed next to some undesirable group of loud obnoxious disgusting humans. most of them are starring at their phones anyway, barely paying attention. a beer costs $15. bad food. generic loud music. sitting in horrific traffic trying to exit. why tf did I do this? this is a miserable experience. I could've watched it on a decent sized screen at home and saved all this hassle.

thx for sharing the thought... One Very Important Thought the font type definitely looks the same as what they've used before. especially on MHTRTC. looks like it's called ITC Bauhaus, based on what this says: https://fontsinuse.com/uses/25531/boards-of-canada-music-has-the-right-to-child#:~:text=Typefaces,-More about ITC&text=Music Has the Right to Children is the debut studio,on front%2C back and CD.
  13. I can see that what I said there could be interpreted that way... but I was meaning that it's been many, many years now since the rise of trump and maga-ism. there have been numerous opportunities for his supporters to "snap out of it," realize that him and his whole schtick is a giant con game. that's the "point" I was meaning. the kool aid should've worn off by now...how anyone can still straight faced say that the election was stolen, etc., after all the evidence presented, means that those on team maga are never going to come around. ever. they will go to their graves believing trump was the best thing that happened to America. and all the debating/trying to snap them out of it, seems futile... but I don't have any other solution to present as an alternative to the debating method you mentioned...this is the part in the movie when a deus ex machina is supposed to happen. gotcha. yeah the humans inhabiting this planet are in dire need of a massive sea change right about now. and it isn't going to come from more technology being thrown at us (AI), if you ask me.
  14. it is. especially when it's someone you've known for a long time. this requires the other side to actually listen though. seems to me we're passed that point. there is the side of logic/common sense/decency, and there is the other side starring back angrily with fingers plugged in their ears. society has become far more immature after social media started. debate only works if the other side is mature enough to reply back with a take that is rooted in reality. the maga tribe have all completely lost touch with the real world, thanks to FB/twitter/Fox news and con man don filling their heads with non stop BS over the years. also, gotta be careful about crossing the streams of politics/religion. doing "gods work" is what the red hats all say trumpo is doing. IMO it's this type of thinking, i.e. believing to be acting on behalf of an imaginary omniscient eye in the sky, that causes more bad deeds to occur on this planet than good.
  15. ugh...I've had a few irl encounters with trump supporters lately. one was a very well educated guy I've known a long time, who fell down the right wing rabbit hole years back. don't know how it came up (we were drinking, always the best time to discuss politics lol) and I saw the "switch" in his personality as soon as the election and all that shit came up. the aggressiveness came out big time. not willing to listen to any points I made. his logic fell apart when trying to defend that stuff, but he kept repeating stuff over and over. like robotic scary. I finally had to go down the path of least resistance - fuck all this politics shit, I love you maaaan - in order to get back to some state of calmness. another dude was a bar denizen who came up to a table I was at with friends. he made some comment about one of my friends having hair like trump (my friends hair was salt and pepper grey, longish, but nothing like big T's classic combover) and then it all starts getting into politics. the bar dude just kept repeating over and over "he's my guy. don't care what anyone says, trump's my guy." this dude was definitely looking to fight if we wanted that, which we didn't. dealing with dipshits like this...it's almost like being a parent who is forced to placate an upset toddler so they don't continue to throw shit around the room. Maga-ism is 100% a cult. this is what happens to people in cults. they may act normal for the most part, then boom, some trigger hits, some synapses in their brain start misfiring. they no longer are accepting of logic. I know most of us know this by now, see it day in day out online. but dealing with people like this irl is a reminder that brainwashing is real.
  16. was in New Mexico recently and drank quite a few of these. from Santa Fe Brewing company

  18. pure USA on display...racism, stupidity, white Christian non-acceptance, wasting taxpayer money...all for nothing! https://www.fox10tv.com/2023/10/13/appeals-court-sides-again-with-thai-group-seeking-set-up-buddhist-meditation-center-mobile/ Buddhist group wants to open a temple/meditation center in Mobile, AL. they get city approval and buy the property. then, the local "public" weighs in on it...and sure enough the local leaders cave in - people start suing, and the thing gets logged down in the legal system for, oh, 7 years? and it apparently cost the city over $1 mil to defend its pointless/racist case? incredible. so much pointless dumb shit in this country.
  19. https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/15/trump-fec-polls-funding-00121681 grift [ grift ]SHOW IPA See synonyms for grift on Thesaurus.com noun (sometimes used with a plural verb) a group of methods for obtaining money falsely through the use of swindles, frauds, dishonest gambling, etc. money obtained from such practices. verb (used without object) to profit by the use of grift:a man known to have grifted for many years. verb (used with object) to obtain (money or other profit) by grift.
  20. it's been awhile since I watched it, but I do remember it didn't find its footing until later in season 1. season 2 introduces some new bad guy characters that are really good. it does improve as it goes on (and gets much darker), so maybe grind through the first few more lighthearted/pulpy s1 eps. for me it's one of those shows I only want to watch once. don't have much of a desire to go back and re-watch the whole thing.
  21. haha yeah 4 real. anyone's who's posted on a forum for close to 20+ yrs would say the same thing. aging/maturity, right? can't stay the same 20 something yr old online persona forever.
  22. very thoughtful post...but remember, he mentioned he rarely does blow, and was posting that shit after knowingly doing a bunch of lines. the purpose of cocaine is more or less to cause whoever snorts it to experience a shit ton of crazy brain thinking and anxiety lol.
  23. big T's lawyer seems p cool - https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-lawyer-sports-gamer-laptop-181500741.html
  24. u probably asleep now...my unprofessional advice? 1)R E L A X, B R O. no need to think bad thoughts at all. thoughts aren't reality. focus on breaths to calm the mind. yeah I know harder to do after drinking + coke...but u can try it. 2)listen to calm music! we're on a music forum ffs 3)don't take more shit hoping it will fix the first shit you took. that is bad! drinking more agua is a good idea. a ton of water or even like those sports drinks are what I'd say are a better idea. food helps...but yeah I know too much coke tells your brain food is a no no. also, coke hangovers are the fuckin worst.
