I fucking hate the "its just good music" argument. SOOOOO BORING. Half the fun of music like this is that it exists within a collective cultural consciousness, filled with samples, retro styles, and references. Daft Punk aren't pushing the limits of electronic music and sound design like Ae, nor are they stylizing themselves as loner bedroom geniuses like AFX. The music itself is cultural criticism just waiting to be explored. Daft Punk is so much more than just fun great tunes. They're smarter than that and frankly its insulting to minimize their intentions and impact to a "good tunes, simple as that" mentality.

daft punk are a really interesting group to me. it took ten years and two parisians to make chicago house commercially successful. What did they do to pull that off? how did they distill acid house into da funk... it's not that different from washing machine or something... but it just caught on. Same thing with discovery... make us listen to a dance style that is constantly derided as vapid shit but "update" it so it's not obvious or pathetic throwback... clever guys.

I'll watch this as well. looks good according to the reviews there and I have very little doubt that I'll end up watching all of it. yeah i know about 4 or 5 girls who could fit into each one of the main characters. It's horrifying. The supporting cast too. Definitely friends with gay men exactly like elijah. And hannah having academic parents who teach at a big midwest state school... and wow 70% of that show is directly my life. And it's not exaggerated. Those people exist and live in greenpoint and they all went to oberlin or wesleyan or bard (shudder) shockingly well observed and portrayed. season 2 is good too. has a couple stinker episodes but overall very well done... and very very sad.

at least other shows about other things I can't relate to, series about British aristocrats or Italian-American mobs, or zombies, substantive things happen to characters you give at least somewhat give a shit about I didn't hate the one episode Girls I caught part of but just the general premise kind of miffs me meh i both love and am confounded by why WATMM has zero ability to understand Girls.

maybe i'm just being silly, but it's not wrong to think that the big OOOOOOOHHHHHMMMMMMMMM in Strom is the mangled sample from ohm sweet ohm? if not a sample well then obviously a nod. lol pop music obviously starts with kraftwerk for uwe this is a great cd, something i've been looking for recently, amazed by the lack of interest in pop by talented producers
