What on earth is funny about that?

From what I understand, it's an MMORPG where players earn experience points for adding ironic tags to popular artists.

I don't know, but some of my personal favourites are "better than radiohead" and "people who are freakier and folkier than devendra fucking banhart".

its funny to see some kind of chart that shows the popularity of the forum artists in numbers finally

you can see how much aphex is more successful than venetian snares which was obvious but at the same time snares kind of catches up to squarepusher and that boc seems to be the 2. idm player right behind aphex twin - a thing that i wasn't aware of

also wisp is currently ranked 1. page which really shows how much is success has grown now

thanks again :)

still nothing has happened to the movie behind it but I am currently setting things up to do something with it

when you use as a plug-in in your mp3 player you can listen to the stuff you played randomly where ever you are (good for example to use it at work where you don't have access to your mp3s) its also great to find new music by listening to similar artist radio

or you can find events in your area that fit to your tracks or by adding friends that listen to the same stuff you can list where they are going to

Yeah, the radio was the big draw for me. It really is pretty brilliant. Also it's sort of nice to see a quantified list of what I've been listening to in any given week, sometimes it's surprising.

The Flashbulb number is astonishing. Millions of more plays than Clark? Mu-ziq?

I've only heard a few tracks of his that didn't sound derivative, cheap or gimmicky. Really, I think he's pretty average as far as net musicians go.

Flahbulb works really hard at "the hustle" because he knows he has to (music is fair to midland at best). Examples of this hustle are the hyperbolic word storms about his music that, while appear to be written by others, suspiciously seems to come from the man himself. He diversifies into other areas like advertising and keeps a pretty accessible status, which makes his fans go apeshit. Plus, he's physically attractive and anyone would be a fool if they tried to deny that that wasn't a factor. In terms of "IDM" artists, he's actually a little long in the tooth now as he's put shit out since 1999. Lastly, he adds completely banal and typical musical/instrumental elements that anchors people into it so they can go to their guitar friends and say "you think ______ is badass, listen to this!"

I agree with all of this. I just didn't think that it could amount to millions of plays among Last.fm listeners alone. Dude must be running the plugin on a ton of old PCs and playing his own tunes all day.

lol you beat me to this, i was just typing out this same theory here. i dont think any of what XXX said really correlates with how he seems to have so many listeners on last.fm (twice as much as wisp? suspicious as hell)

BOC having that many listeners has nothing to do with people who enjoy electronic music. It's all those fucking hippies with computers.

I'm actually genuinely curious how many "IDM" fanz have last.fm accounts..aren't y'all too cool for that? I know I am.

It notes what you're listening to and how often, compares it to other users, and recommends music it thinks you'd like. Works very well. There's a community/social networking aspect to it too.

It also has streaming radio stations of material it recommends for you, or that is similar to any specified artist/genre.
