Vocal music

I want watmm to help me find good quality vocal music. And when I say quality I didn't mean flac files, but good singing! It can be classic, it can be swing, it can be pop or opera, just as long as you love it and want to make me love it!

So far I loved the singing of Garm from Ulver, Freddie from Queen and some singers from Phillip Glass or some other composer that has vocals. In other words I know close to nothing of good singing, and thus need help of you, broad minded, musically experienced people.

Three two, one, GO!

U-tube videos will do

Ok, I just remembered a few more I'd say I love for the singing: Nick Cave, the guy from band Beirut, Jamie Lidell (except sometimes when he overdoes stuff), singer of Opeth, Camille, probably left out a few good ones.

Anyway, I'd love some serious vocal music, possibly with man chorus or something.

Dear Gaarg,

I'm pretty sure what you're looking for is R Murray Schafer. He's kinda like Philip Glass, only he's Canadian, he writes mostly choral music, and his music is more usually more fast-paced and less ambient. He's a genius with cluster chords and voicing. Here are some examples:

Sometimes his work reminds me of Fol4 by Autechre, except with voices instead of noise.

Guest Billov

Dunno if this is what you're looking for, but The Beach Boys have really inspired me since I discovered how incredible they were recently...

Brian Wilson was a perfect pitch genius bastard... All the vocal layering is just so milky fresh. Makes pop vocalists these days just seem like a bunch of half arsed clowns.

The Zombies were similar in ways, and definitely worth checking out their "Odyssey and Oracle" album.

Oh and Roy Orbison

sorry, all pretty oldschool music, but people knew how to fucking sing back then...

Gregorian Chant is some of my favorite. I've never heard anything that comes so close to capturing the simplicity and beauty of religious experience. Very relaxing and profound.

Ursula Rucker has an amazing voice too, she is mainly a poet though but is very distinctive.
