deerhunter

arcade fire

boards of canada

jay reatard

arab strap

or are you referring to bands that started in the 00s? if so then my list is fucked

let's just say for the sake of argument that a band "came to prominence" if you first became aware of them from 2000 onwards, that should make it easier

Off the top of my head:

Deerhunter

Atlas Sound

Demdike Stare

The entire Ghost Box roster

Serena-Maneesh

Ghost Box has been the discovery of the decade for me.

And I've no doubt there're at least a few glaring omissions there.

In no order.

Radiohead

The Black Dog

Clark

Cephax Acid Crew

Simian Mobile Disco

......or something like that. Simian might get replaced by Sebastian if his album came out this year.

EDIT: oh shit, if I had but any thought into this Id have fitted mount kimbie in there somewhere.

My top 5 are all artists that were rising to prominence in the 90's but then continued to rise throughout the 00's. I've got no idea who would fill that 6th position... there are dozens of contenders, so I'm just going to list a bunch :trashbear:

*edit: just remembered Beck, who I guess would be in the top 6, but I'm going to keep my list of contenders so that my effort wasn't a total waste of thought. The 00 artists are on their way out anyway...

Radiohead

The Flaming Lips

Autechre

Wilco

Queens of the Stone Age

Beck

Jaga Jazzist?

Converge?

TV on the Radio?

The National?

Dillinger Escape Plan?

Jim O'Rourke?

Arcade Fire?

Meshuggah?

Jamie Lidell?

Grizzly Bear?

Mastodon?

Fleet Foxes?

Tame Impala?

...and on and on...

word but ok computer and the bends and pablo honey all sold TONS. creep is still one of their biggest hits and that was 1992.

but whatever, tis just an internet thread. if i would have included people who were already "big" in the 90s my list would be way different lol.
