Finally saw Romulus in the theater today. Definitely worth the matinee ticket price.
I’m a super fan of Aliens (the first one I saw, and when it was new) and I really like the first one, but all of the rest besides this one have let me down in some way.  I’m not a superfan of the franchise for this reason, but I’m keen enough to keep going back to the theater for new movies.
Having said, I found myself on the edge of my seat and enjoying the characters quite a bit. Not much story to speak of, which is fine. Visually it really does a good job of cleverly placing itself between the first two films.

Recommended viewing for the big screen.

Spoiler

The bit with the alien dna “Prometheus yadda yadda” serum was a bit dumb but it was ok that it payed off with the xeno-baby-dude. Kinda fun but it lost me with the design & CG-ness of it (the rest of the effects prior to that felt pretty organic/analog, which was refreshing). I also liked bringing rook back a lot but his cg felt a bit underbaked. I would have bought it more if it was a puppet.

I also didn’t quite buy the kids with access to the spaceship and our main girl being familiar with all the stuff(buttons , gear, etc) in Romulus.

Good flick / 10

Spoiler

The unrealistic cgi offspring thing is this basketball player in makeup/prosthetics. He looks fake even in real life.
