Now you've made me reverse my whole argument. I only tried to listen to Ravedeath once and turned it off half way through. Fucking awful album. Good thread but this is wrong. Like back in the days there was this chill hip hop album from the Nonce, 'world ultimate' with smooth tribe called quest like jazzy tracks on it. I mean, obviously with CD/vinyl you can't delete tracks, but a large portion of my music collection is digital. and even with the shittiest songs I would never delete a track from an album. I have this weird fixation to albums. I hate listening to one off tracks. Maybe if its a song that's on my mind sure but when I properly sit down and listen to music I much prefer albums and EPs and just listening to the whole thing. So the idea of deleting a track?? never! never ever ever ever ever. I would sooner delete the whole album/get rid of the album then I would delete a track. ( ACTUALLY!! I have deleted tracks from my collection. when albums put *bonus tracks* or remixes at the end. I've deleted those before. ) does that count? who cares about shitty remixes.. ACTUALLY, you're post also reminded me that I've done some similar rearranging of tracks - retagging certain things I've ripped from CD in the case of certain compilations, bonus CDs, US versions & whatnot, like: - breaking apart the 2nd CD of Tri Rep ++ into garbage and anvil vapre (no reason these altogether different beasts need to be tethered to each other) - separating Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi 2CD compilation into the 3 original releases that span it (again, all really different) - Taking off the Girl/Boy EP from the end of the stateside RDJ Album... and subsequently deleting it! eugene Posted October 1, 2014 Share Posted October 1, 2014 no, that's fucked up. i think most of the artists in our sphere release their music as complete albums and they should be approached as such if the idea is to get artist's intentions and ideas. skipping/deleting tracks would be akin to removing objects or particular colors from a painting. equing and bpm correcting?? fucking puke in my mouth. Guest Roksen Creek Posted October 1, 2014 Share Posted October 1, 2014 It depends what mood I'm in, sometimes I just listen to music casually, make playlists, only listen to the tracks I want to and so on. However, there are times when I want to listen to an album all the way through. I want to experience the whole thing, warts and all as the creator intended. The album quite often tells a kind of abstract story and not listening to the whole thing feels like I'm missing out on the whole experience, similar to skipping chapters in a book. Also, as Hello Spiral said, some tracks that don't seem great on first listens reveal themselves to you after a while. You're potentially denying yourself of a great track just because it doesn't click with you straight away. Why would you always skip/delete/edit a track when you've paid money for it anyway? hoggy Posted October 1, 2014 Share Posted October 1, 2014 I do it, some albums have filler - I think that might be a product of the hard-copy non-mp3 past - where you could make a few good songs and then fill an album with lazy rubbish to make money My favourite stuff is almost always the stuff I don't edit, like Snares albums, Melvins albums, drukqs, Taxidermy by Queen Adreena, Aenima by Tool, some Hair Stylistics stuff... Occasionally though someone does something so special that is mixed with really unspecial stuff - especially more improvised or experimental stuff can be like that (the biggest nightmare for me is when it is in one song - Sonic Youth used to confuse me with that) One of the things I love about the Melvins is that Buzz actually believes in putting a bit of effort into what he does (even though it's quite experimental) - I think that's why they've been so consistent while other heavy bands got lazy MY OPINIONS EVERYONE CHECK OUT MY OPINIONS ABOUT MUSIC I'M SO AWESOME Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The only time I deleted a track was when I downloaded the Japanese The Downward Spiral because my laptop has no CD drive and deleted the fucking J bonus track because it's awful and fucked up the flow of the album completely. Why is a bonus track mid album with no logical transition? Worst idea ever. I skip tracks, but only if I'm on time constraint, like if I'm listening to an album on the way home and it's not enough time for the whole album. At which point I know the tracks I like most and prioritize accordingly. But if I put an album on generally then it's on beginning to end. Most music sounds like shit on my system without it I was really interested in reading about what the loudness button actually does and is intended for. If lots of songs are terrible then it's a terrible album and I don't listen to it again. Editing tracks though...that's a step too far for me. Also, Mr. Spiral, bear in mind that not all albums are compiled with love and care with the artists/labels involved. Many are just shunted together, usually with single/melodic track at the beginning and everything else just chucked on behind it. Definitely agree with deleting bonus tracks off of the end of things, unless they're pretty good. Roadrunner Records were notorious for this: the digipak versions of their albums always had a bunch of bonus unreleased + live tracks, which were sometimes great but often just made albums needlessly longer. You know, that 90's thing where CDs had 30 mins of silence followed by either someone farting or a cool track. I don't do it as much as I no longer use minidisc but man, those were annoying.
