How does the World view America these days?
ignatius replied to Rubin Farr's topic in General Banter
sheesh. that sounds rough. at 14 i had a bunch of shitty jobs here and there but nothing that hazardous. fuckn hell. worst i had to deal with was mowing lawns around the neighborhood and on weekends getting picked up at 3am to go work at a flea market that opened stupid early. i worked in the concession trailers selling donuts and shitty hot dogs and eating whatever i wanted and got paid $50 cash at the end of the day. as soon as i saved enough money to buy the bike parts i wanted i quit that shit. btw, the hotdogs were frozen and came in a box of 50. a solid mass of 50 frozen hotdogs all jammed together that we'd just drop into a huge pot of hotdog water and let them boil. i don't think we ever changed the water. -
here's some options depending on mood: Frank Zappa - "You are what you is". also, "Apostrophe/Overnight Sensation" Miles Davis/bill Laswell - "Panthallassa -the music of miles davis" Funckadelic "Standing on the Verge of Getting it On" Phoenecia "Brown Out" or "Demissions" DJ Shadow -"Endtroducing" and of course.. obviously.. something autechre

i think i posted this here somewhere but since we're throwing modulars around.. edit: btw this is from the dude who runs MetalBox modular. chatted w/him once about this patch. he said it's 10 voices and a bunch of sequential switches, noisering, sequantizer (wiard sequencer)

can we just get healthcare and rent control.. maybe daycare for kids and fix 3 million potholes... school lunch for kids... pay raise for teachers.. or any of the thousands of things that would make life better for people here in this fucking upside down tardistan of a country.

they're all over portland. i've thought about getting one for all the short trips, grocery shopping and all that stuff. cycling infrastructure here is pretty good for most trips. there's 2 or 3 e-bike stores in town now. i'd def get a cargo bike style w/the small tires like the one in that pic but a little longer wheel base. i book marked this page for reviews. https://gearjunkie.com/biking/best-electric-cargo-bikes sometimes i will ride my bike to the store as it's so close but depends on what i need, how i'm feeling, if it's a shitshow of a weather day etc. cargo bike would make it all simpler.

at first i was thinking "well they're rolling out the tropes" but i got into it and found myself attached to some of the characters. they do a good meta episode later on. ended up watching "The White Lotus" which sucked me in pretty good and is weird and funny and wtf. each season is a different cast.

many americans, in corporate/creative/tech jobs, are very focused on image especially when they perceive that someone is better than them at something. also, many americans really want the pat on the back for doing the thing they were supposed to do anyways. but i think this problem is not uniquely american but often corporate culture as a whole.. but americans are really good at embedding themselves into that system and want some kind of praise for that as if they have come so far in their career and have a mountain of accomplishments to stand on. it's also a thing people do where they justify their persona to themselves. they need to say things out loud otherwise they might realize that it's all bullshit and they're just as useless as any other cog in the machine. "i'm special". but i'm generalizing and i know many wonderful people who don't have these problems with image and ego and also work in the same kind of jobs/environments.

i watched some of the frontline episode last night but it didn't really get into the dirt. interesting about how she was in a cult and is "all in" when she finds a thing that she likes.. Qanon maybe? but, the behind the bastards multi part podcast on him is way better. it goes deeper into his childhood and all his porn addictions and his regular behaviors in the office.. like coming in on monday and describing scenes in the porns he watched over the weekend.. rating them like a film critic. it also dabbles in some speculation about why he hates "affirmative action" so much. here's part one.. i think there's 3 or 4 parts.. https://www.iheart.com/podcast/105-behind-the-bastards-29236323/episode/part-one-the-clarence-thomas-story-99759984/ -
found some underwear at the back of the drawer that are basically new. also, had my yearly CT Scan last week and all good news. the 2cm mass in my right kidney has not grown at all. just sitting there like a dumb bastard making me wait. and nothing else new or weird in the scan. so, that's good. not so much an achievement as good luck. i guess i'll have to live a little longer into the coming dystopia.

also, 100+ children working in meat packing plants across 8 states. all linked to one company. hmmm.. From stakeouts to warrants: How federal investigators found more than 100 children cleaning slaughterhouses https://www.cbsnews.com/news/government-investigation-into-slaughterhouse-cleaning-company-that-hired-children-60-minutes-transcript-2023-05-07/ largest hedge fund in the world is partial investor in the company... of course. they said they did due diligence when investing and didn't find anything wrong. some reporters staked out a parking lot and watched a shift change and that's all it took to find that children were working there. -
