Yeah, it's a great set but the quality is a little lacking. It would be really cool if a better sounding source turns up, I suppose that's the question we all want to know! If it's just a FLAC of the existing version then cool, but I doubt I'll download it.

Yeah the source is the key. If it's FLAC but from the same recorded source the difference would be near enough negligible (unless the original mp3 is below 128k or something) to the human ear. The more modern encoding algorithms used by programs like LAME make it near enough impossible for a human to distinguish between a wav and an mp3 encoded with a good LAME vbr setting.

I'm pretty sure it's only when you start playing stuff out on decent club PAs that the mp3 compression gets exposed, which is why you would use FLAC if you were a DJ. As far as I know the only difference between FLAC and a wav is that FLAC removes all the bits from the wav file that aren't really sound related.

the goal here is to establish an archive of the PUREST sources available, which means if i can get FLACs which have gone through a lossless PROCESS, they are much preferable to LAME mp3s. personally, i cant tell the difference, however that is not the point, it is also the reason i need the recommendation of a program to compare source quality.

32:40: Unknown - Is this a tune or noise generated from the laptop?

I've personally verified every one of these, so it's correct obviously less the unknowns. Alex, perhaps you could paste it into a text file and link it along with the set?

A_S_T: more or less i know what is the FLAC file format :) (probably dont know half of what any of U knows about FLACs :)) but still, if we get lo-fi garbage on input, we may encode it with FLAC, and still get a garbage on output (in terms of sound quality).

So to be more precise, apart from media format, is your recording of Aphex @ Melt of better audible quality than the one listed in the very first post in this topic ? :)

And does anyone has a tracklist from that gig ? Im so amazed with some moments of this set, and would like actually know if it was Aphex stuff all the time, or he was just playing someone else shit ? Or he was mixing a lot of someone else shit ? :)

Cheers

tomaswoj

PS. still can wait to here what U have :) Politely waiting for 1st Jan2007.

u ask me great questions... :-/ can't response u where these flac came... but when i convert them in wave, tracks sound like a good bootleg... i'll give u a link & u'll c how is it... ;-)

as u want! ;-) it was just a pleasure 2 share... but if i find in4mations on source of these files, i give them 2 u & it's not i don't search where r they from, in contrary!! just i listen them 2 c if they have good sound (as in wave as in mp3) bcause i'm curious 2 know what's the quality they have... if i find a document .txt, i'll give it with the rest... but no... don't find this document, each folder contains only flac files...

CBrown, nice one, thanks for those IDs!!!

Regarding the tune that you've listed in at 19:35, whatever it is is definitely getting mixed in over that tune by S & F. Either that or the tune that you've IDed contains the main loop from it as a sample.

Do you have that DJ Mayhem record as an mp3 rip? I've got a whole bunch of the basement records stuff but I'm missing 16. Used to know a guy on slsk with the entire catalogue but he's never online anymore :(.

Thanks for that Nasenbluten tune aswell, will look into that, but there was a tune IDed by sqruwezey that actually comes in just before that called Human Kick Machine by The Possessed, so the tracklisting will have to be changed a wee bit.

Damn, it sucks that you can't edit your posts on this forum :).

Anyway, just wanted to say, that Nasenbluten ID seems like a bit of a strange one. The reason I say that is because whatever that tune Richard played, the "worst thing about a gunshot wound" sample is actually George Clooney from 'Three Kings'. That film wasn't released until 1999, and according to discogs (which is rarely wrong), that record was released in 1998.

Anyway, I'll try and track down a copy of it and verify.

I have the Jungle Soundclash vol 1 compilation, but not volume 2 :(.

Trying to get it just now on slsk. Failing that, somebody has it for sale on discogs, I'll buy it next month when I paid.

Ahh right cool yeah, that is the right tune.

The main synth line that they've sampled is from that S & F tune.

edit - nah wait I'm talking nonsense, it was S & F who sampled that tune.

Heh, yeah the Nasenbluten was a total stab in the dark...I heard the sample and thought of that tune, so yeah :/

I've got both Mayhem records here...I do think I have rips of them already though, let me go check. If not, I'll rip 'em and post 'em here.

As for that tune off of Jungle Soundclash v2, I'm almost thinking now it's not by SE9...imma go find out right now. I've got the album on .mp3 / vinyl, I'll post it here too :)

Jungle Soundclash 1 is great innit? Lot of really good tunes, love the mix on the vinyl. I think Strictly Hardcore put out some of the best comps during their day. Hardcore Junglistic Fever being one of them....
