The results are in from the Opening Round and there were many lob sided matches. All but 2 top seeds advanced! The unknown team of Reverse Space Lightning Rods stormed into this competion and made history by upsetting Ulilillia who was left pondering and questioning RSLR's game. And What Game it was! No one knows anything about the newcomers, but they are one to watch as the Tournament continues.

The closest game in the first round was Strandbeest vs the Logarithmic Spiral which was forced into overtime. Strandbeest then crept their way passed their opponent in an impressive victory.

In the second round we find to classic competitors battling out between Strandbeest and SPISH. We expect a classic match between them.

So here are the brackets as we move into the second round!

When we're talking about the fourth dimension, are we talking about an additional spatial dimension, or the temporal dimension as seen as part intertwined with the geometry of space? Because the first is pretty lame and the second is pretty cool.

That said, I voted for for ULODIOM.

I hope that dew covered insects wins, but it looks like it'll lose this round.

The Fourth Dimension

The possibility of spaces with dimensions higher than three was first studied by mathematicians in the 19th century. In 1827 Möbius realized that a fourth dimension would allow a three-dimensional form to be rotated onto its mirror-image, and by 1853 Ludwig Schläfli had discovered many polytopes in higher dimensions, although his work was not published until after his death. Higher dimensions were soon put on firm footing by Bernhard Riemann's 1854 Habilitationsschrift, Über die Hypothesen welche der Geometrie zu Grunde liegen, in which he considered a "point" to be any sequence of coordinates (x1, ..., xn). The possibility of geometry in higher dimensions, including four dimensions in particular, was thus established.

An arithmetic of four dimensions called quaternions was defined by William Rowan Hamilton in 1843. This associative algebra was the source of the science of vector analysis in three dimensions as recounted in A History of Vector Analysis.

The fourth dimension was popularised by Charles Howard Hinton, starting in 1880 with his essay What is the Fourth Dimension? published in the Dublin University magazine. He coined the terms tesseract, ana and kata in his book A New Era of Thought, and introduced a method for visualising the fourth dimension using cubes in the book Fourth Dimension.

Windows 95 vs Transit Maps, Space Stations vs Industrial Piping are some tough match ups!

i'd like to think that dinosaurs could have taken down tesla (in round one), but even if this were a death-match tournament i think tesla would whoop their asses. hard times for dinos. if only there was a "moss on a space station" option - this contest would be over by now

GAME OVER, MAN, GAME OVER.

'david bowie as nikolai tesla' practically deserves its own fuckin entry.

I used to stare at transit maps when I was around 4 - 6 years old. So it's a form of nostalgia for me!

Soviet Monuments have totally written expendable cosmonauts out of their mission profile

Strandbeest is kicking sand in the face of SPISH

Neutron stars sweep aside disagreement with the cold hard certainty of cosmology

1 dimensional universe has flattened fluorescent mice

Factories at night have manufactured a convincing lead over Pi, who predictably attempted something of a numbers game

Reverse Space Lightning Rods have a plan to fry teleportation - if they could just pin it down

Windows 95 is locked in a grueling reboot loop with Transit Maps

Elderly Exoskeletons are gathering no Moss

My thoughts exactly. Had to think about those two for a while.

Come on people, Philip K. Dick is so incredibly IDM. Apparently reading isn't very IDM.

launching yourself into space with no expectation of ever returning is FUCKING IDM, OKAY.

quit fawning over the pretty pictures of buildings and CONSIDER THE ISSUES. OKAY.

this is not a fucking game.

Those buildings are so fucking IDM. Their They're from a country that doesn't even exist anymore, and now, serve nearly no purpose.

Abandoned, Alone, Slowly Falling Apart, Fading into Obscurity. Sounds like the definitions of IDM.
