EKT Classic Albums (WATMM's Own!)

I would love to hear what albums by watmm members any of you consider to be classic, even if it's just for personal significance.

For expediency, let's assume some of the more widely known artists are common knowledge here, and not focus on them as much. (Such as Wisp, Trackermatte, eod, etc.)

Here's a few important ones for me:

Zephyr Nova - Shatterscapes

(No link- it's on bleep for now)

Full of energy and inspiration, this album moves effortlessly through a wide pallete of sounds and motifs. The drums and bells jitter happily, and the vocals are soothing and beautiful. Lots of variety between songs. The album seems to describe both nostalgia, and new life & discovery.

pilotredsun - achievement

https://pilotredsun.bandcamp.com/album/achievement

May fit under the category of common knowledge. It's songs are fun, memorable, and bouncy. The happy, detuned sounds are both genuine, and always ever so slightly disturbed in their sickly sweetness.

Blaź - Don't Listen to This

https://blazh.bandcamp.com/album/dont-listen-to-this

It's an awesome, intense showcase of this artist's talents, and there's a lot of range and emotional power. The song writing, performing, and sound design are all spot on, and it all seems to stay on theme and tie together very smoothly.

Owen Gilbride - Trax III

http://world3.tk/

This album is so warm and cozy, and yet there is an unease and strangeness to it. This album expands upon a lot of the ideas explored in his previous work (land maps 2x4 and microtrax), and marks a transition, as the style of his music morphs significantly after the next few albums from this point on. It feels like the SAW I of the Owen Gilbride discography to me.

I still listen to the CHATMM Volume 3 ambient compilation.

Concealed Sequence (don't remember the user name of the guy in the group) has a few releases that I still listen to occasionally.

Silver Trifolium and slumbr releases are all good stuff.

Future Image's Phant+Cast is really good.

Mopfunk has some good stuff, Dogwatch is a good release.

Phyla Zen - Cornea//Copia

Acrelid has some good stuff.

Rolando Simmons - Magic Crystal (he's sorta grown past EKT status though for sure!)

Face Culler - Lost Lands is good

You can find links to all of those and probably some others I missed at: https://bandcamp.com/araucariaceae

Seconding Zephyr Nova.. his indie pop projects really do it for me:

https://theskylitup.bandcamp.com/releases

https://solipsisband.bandcamp.com/

I find myself getting his songs in my head every now and then, even if I haven't listened in a while. The above two albums haven't left my phone since I downloaded them.

Thanks for that link! I haven't heard most of these

Oh well I mean that's just my bandcamp purchases collection and wishlist you see, it's definitely not all WATMM people. Not sure if that's what you thought but I just wanted to clarify.

Either way, new musics is good

Seconding 'Zephyr Nova - Shatterscapes', though I may be slightly biased cuz the artwork is a painting of mine (regretting the font though):

CMA's The Sub is an undisputed classic

There were a lot of cool submissions for the lost 4th part of P168 but I recall Thisket's "Nothing but" being particularly excellent.

Rooftop Access' Excellent Universe...

..and Reals and Dreamity

Thanks for everyone's suggestions! Excited to check some of this stuff out. I would love to put together a comprehensive list after there are more posts. It's been a dream of mine for a while, cause I think there's some really amazing music here.

ah man thanks! I re-listened to those recently, the long ambient loop tracks are really self indulgent lol

Earvalve had a few classics. Bitches and Sandwiches by Orange Dust was wicked and anything by Fieldtriqp.

Is that the OD release with skeletones on it? Cause that tune was a banger.

+1 for fieldtriqp also

I remember chim's Center Node (I think it was called that) album being really good

Not sure if an album from last year can be a classic but Hello Spiral + Friendly Foil's "Friendly Spirals" is one of the few WATMM albums that I have on permanent album rotation

Cryptwomen makes and made some great albums, Mount Shasta being a personal favorite (http://world3.tk/)

The CHATMM comps of course, personal favs being Academic Electronics, the vaporwave, glitch and DnB ones

That artwork for for Zephyr Nova is banging by the way.

Thank u. I don't paint much these days because it takes me so long to make anything. Will get back into it one day and get a proper website going for prints etc. Also drew this one for Zephyr Nova's Ambient LP:

I have been listening to the Solipsis album a lot, great recommendation. Reminds me of Klaatu among others.

Yes, Mount Shasta is great! Definitely a classic for me. For the record, I think it's Cryptowen. (Cryptwomen is a pretty amazing user name tho)
