so here I am researching all of these speeches by Malcolm X for this Rhetoric assignment when I realise - oh fuck, I have to find a "contemporary" cultural or political figure. Basically I need to find anyone who is fairly well known, a great public speaker, and who's speeches can be found online. (oh and they have to be alive) I'd rather shoot myself in the face than analyse Barack Obama or George Bush, so if there's anyone out there who you guys really admire, despise, whatever -I'd appreciate your suggestions. Criteria: must be alive, and have transcriptions of (at least 3 of) their speeches online. Thanks WATMM, I know you'll come through

Dale Carnegie books

I know, self-help books are first and foremost, bullshit. I've never been into them, the couple of self-help books I had to read in freshman year university were stupid and banal. But Dale Carnegie's were the very first ever written so maybe those are actually good? Is it worth investing any time in reading books like How To Win Friends And Influence People, and his similar books? I'm asking because I've realized that it isn't hard skills that I'm lacking, but soft skills, when it comes to succeeding. I'm approaching my thirties so I'm allowed a little bit of douchebaggery in my life. Thoughts, WATTM?

I heard on the radio last night that the new cool thing to do is have a pot-belly instead of a six-pack, and guys are calling it "a Ralph Kramden" after Jackie Gleason's character in The Honeymooners. I think it might be a short-lived trend.

I need a new hat. I have a Tool hat thats black but its faded to brown so I need to replace it. I'm looking for an Ae hat optimally, but those probably don't even exist except for that horrible quaristice umbrella gangster hat I see on google images. Basically any major artist on here, or even just a hat with some IDM-like logo or something. I fucking HATE wearing brand name hats, especially since the only brand logos I'm at all interested in are Skateboarding company logos and I'm not a skater. Anybody know what process I could go through to get a good hat? I'm thinking flexfit baseball cap type, not the flat beak gangstar ones or a trucker hat.

Mindblowing. http://www.hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/2009/25/image/ This celestial object looks like a delicate butterfly. But it is far from serene. What resemble dainty butterfly wings are actually roiling cauldrons of gas heated to more than 36,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The gas is tearing across space at more than 600,000 miles an hour—fast enough to travel from Earth to the Moon in 24 minutes! A dying star that was once about five times the mass of the Sun is at the center of this fury. It has ejected its envelope of gases and is now unleashing a stream of ultraviolet radiation that is making the cast-off material glow. This objec…

Ok, having just called people spastics for basing their self worth on their watmm profile, I'm going to do the unthinkable and make a thread that a) includes my username in the title b) is self justification c)attempts to deconstruct elements of an online persona. I'm an idiot. My avatar. My avatar is 'Jimmy Nail', not Hitler. I'm from Newcastle, in the NE of England. The North East has quite a proud history and strong idendity. Being pretty much the only beacon of light in western europe in the dark ages due to its monasteries, arguably the birthplace of English lit., the Danelaw, the Durahm bishopric largely independent from the English crown unt…

i saw i thread about this recently but i couldn't find it using the search so have made my own... basically i un-partitioned by XP install because my copy was cocking up, but intended to reinstall a new, bigger partition with a better version of XP at a later date. when i tried to re-partition a section i got the old 'some files could not be moved' message. i downloaded idefrag and ran it, but to no avail. this was only on the 'quick' setting though, which allows you to defrag the same drive you're booted from. how would i go about defragging it on a more thorough setting - can i simply boot from cd and still run the application (which is located on the drive of t…

searching with the address bar in firefox
by Guest Coalbucket PI- 10 replies
I like the feature in firefox that lets you type directly into the address bar and if its not a valid web address then it just does a google search and you normally find what you want. But i cant see how I can choose the site it searches through; it changed to Google India a few weeks ago, no idea how I did that, and now I just updated and its searching through some sort of Vuze related google search... I think Vuze tried to install a toolbar add-on which i removed but whatever. Any help?
