MySpace Trawl - The Tuss July 19th, 2007 at 15:00 by Matthew Laidlow MySpace The Tuss Aphex TwinMySpace Trawl is hecklerspray's wobbly feature where we attempt to take a stroll through the sometimes discomforting world of MySpace. After we scrape the wax and other gunk out from our ears, we attempt to find the best bands and artists out there, ranging from guitar raging spasm rock to something you’d put on after vomiting up your insides from a heavy night on the tiles. At least you’ll be listening to stuff that isn’t being pounded on the radio and TV constantly. You’ll be 'alternative' and 'hip' or something. Regular readers of the site know that, at the be…

Aphex Daphex Nova???

itunes is selling this jazz record called "Live Sessions with Arve Henricksen & Studio Recordings Vocalised" by Blood Sweat Drum & Bass Band and the first track is called Aphex Daphex Nova. It's ridiculous in an insulting way.

JK not really. I think he is on his own level, but I think at times he can sound a little like... popol vuh brian eno enya (who I love... I love all these guys, though) public enemy devo donovan (call me crazy) my bloody valentine (a stretch) david bowie (listen to the bonus tracks off of the Ryko release of Heroes) kraftwerk awaiting chimes and/or bitchslaps... but still totally serious in a way. :omg:

Hey, sorry if this is the ultimate idiot noob question, but does anyone know of a good interview/s where Richard goes into the details of the kind of equipment he uses? It seems every interview I've read, the interviewer is more interested in his tank or whatever it is that he drives around then his actual music. Am I just being stupid? By the way, I'm not trying to imitate his style or anything, I'm just kind of interested in nerdy stuff like that.

what did give afx the kind of extra boost / status to be superior to the normal electronic music producers that are out there? i mean the difference of him to become somekind of (pop)star in compairing to other electronic music acts. is it the commercial success with windowlicker? or is it that he is releasing constantly good material? or is the weird CI he uses? or is it the way warp promotes him? what do you think was / is his main key to such a success?

Almost correct I think it's: Rufige Cru and Ajax Project (Rufige Cru being an alias for Goldie) Mach III E.P. I have it on vinyl ;-) I don't think Goldie added very much himself (but then i'm not sure he ever does) All Rufige Cru EPs are fantastic Early Jungle Techno. Darkrider especially - totally ruff.

Richard's birthday is coming up in a month! (August 18). If you were invited to his party, what present would you give him? I'd definitely go for the rare first pressing of Twoism.

It kinda went to me that Richard didn't use that much stereo seperation on many of his album. Listen to the CtD album (minus the title track) and it's pretty going all in the middle, or a little tiny on each side. Heck even Bucephalus is like that for the most part of it, you would have expect perhaps stuff going all around the stereo seperation but no he amazingly keeps all layers centered for a good portion of the bouncing part. The rest of the tracks feel mono-ised. That's a good thing btw. IZ-US is some "whole" thing that would have been lost if the seperation was always there. When he uses stereo seperation it's only to add a little spice to the song, …

It was played in the backround of some Breezeblock Aphex tribute with a bunch of interviews. Sounds like something out of Analord. Take it to the Bridge
