  1. Thanks for the bump lol I totally forgot about this, gonna check it out asap
  2. Alberta gearing up to spend $20M to pay these idiots to take a fucking life-saving vaccine. Quite the turnaround from a month ago when they were convinced the pandemic was over. Might as well mention they have the highest case count and lowest vaccination rate in Canada https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/alberta-covid-kenney-hinshaw-1.6163826
  3. Actually I kinda like this one, it's definitely a bit weird (the faces) but the style is interesting
  4. Yeah I've been meaning to check out more of this, I wasn't around at the time. Where's the best place to find it?
  5. Lol kanye invents new pronoun ye / yim / yis
  6. I still think conceptually the tracks are pretty similar tho. Not like reusing actual pieces of the track but more like a revision of the same idea. (Also I don't mean the full no.8 remix, just the first minute or so, in case that wasn't clear).
  7. Thanks, I think I'm losing my mind. When the track came on (labeled as the coachella set) last night I was like, "Where have I heard this?"
  8. Yeah, the set definitely sounds that way, mostly just tracks we know already, but there are a few of these bits that are still uncredited/unreleased tracks. Mostly just wanted to point out the similarity between the two, i.e. I wonder if the "oh yes" file has its roots in this track, or maybe I'm just being thrown off by the "animals screeching in the jungle" vibe
  9. This bit from the 1999 coachella set sounds like an ancestor of "AE _ OH YES" file from the jam folder clips innit (should be timestamped for 1:24:52, section lasts til about 1:26:00) Edit: found the "oh yes" clip:

    AE_LIVE

I dunno if I'd say the live stuff is better (I'd say it's all good) but it's a good reference point for a lot of the stuff on Elseq and NTS. I would just pick one or two of the live sets (from each era - 14/15 and 16/18), maybe with relatively far-apart dates if you're interested in seeing how the sets developed over time. As for elseq/NTS, I would generally pick a track or two at a time since they are so immense. That's pretty much how I've done it because even as a diehard fan these releases have taken years to really sink in - this has been the Summer Of Elseq for me lol, I guess it took that long, because I had a lot of the same criticisms people have mentioned here, but in the end it has a ton of character and depth and is just as meticulously crafted as anything that came before it. NTS will take awhile because the tracks are immense and there's a lot of what some might consider filler, things stretch out even more than they did on elseq and feel looser/jammier and more spacious. SIGN and PLUS are pretty accessible but again have that "deep listening" effect where things are not quite as they seem, particularly SIGN. But, tldr tbh imo if you haven't even heard Exai yet then start with that lol

    PEN EXPERS

I'd guess that they probably generated a bunch of material from the minidisc but then still edited it into the (relatively) coherent beat that it is now. I think the minidisc shuffle idea is brilliant but yeah I don't think it would generate such an even beat (consider the placement of the snares etc), unless they had set up parameters to make it work out that way - which is possible but borders on "generative" which he's saying it isn't. I'm guessing more of a randomness -> controlled kind of process. Also that interviewer needs to stfu and stop talking over Sean, pls. Anyway Pen Expers is one of my top Ae tracks of all time. Legendary and unrivalled even today. One of the main tracks I've ever used to try to introduce people to them, it was on all my friends' mixtapes in highschool lol

  16. Three cheers for @prdctvsm @ambermonke and @ignatius for your consistently dank contributions to this thread! A rare treat to have posts from all three master curators in one day. You each have your own unique style. Great stuff!????
  17. BC made masks mandatory indoors and on public transit again, and put a bunch of measures in place for K-12 schools again too. Proof of vaccination will be required to get into various places starting Sept 13 for one shot and Oct 24 for both shots.
  18. Ackchyually in the comments someone points out that this was actually a 2005 concert. I don't think a show like this would have happened in 2020 lol
  19. Articles about this kind of thing need to start giving more specific info about the severity of breakthrough cases (number of fully vaccinated patients in ICU, fully vaccinated deaths), otherwise it can be hugely misleading. It seems the reality is that eventually COVID will just float around and millions of people will get it every year but not get horribly sick (as with the flu). We're probably another few years away from that, but I think that makes it all the more important to document specifics around severity/fatality for the vaccinated as we go. Still waiting for news about those other vaccines that were being developed in pill and nasal spray forms. Those were supposed to be better equipped to work against future variants. No news anywhere - must still be in clinical trials. Fingers crossed. It could be a game changer.
