This Evergrande debacle will be interesting to watch. There is something satisfying about investors holding management hostage in a hotel. I don't advocate harming them but what made the '08 crisis particularly maddening in America was the completely impersonal nature of it. It's like a meme: "some asshole did math and now my retirement is gone". The road from things like credit default swaps to getting laid off was so winding and opaque that it was hard to know where to focus anger. Anyway, time really is a flat circle. Every burgeoning, red-hot economy has to have the bust? Is this lawful regardless of culture/nation/etc.?

It's hard to know if this is exactly funny. If anything, it's concerning to me that these Zoomers are bringing shitposts to their vehicles. Like, teh lulz for sure when you're with the homies but will you ever need to pick up your mom or dad from a colonoscopy? Go to grannie's funeral? Give your boss a ride? Just can't sit still on a Blawan record. I love the sound design direction on this one. It's techno for the brain and the floor. In fact, on "Fourth Dimensional" he landed on a most curious sound. Timestamps include: 1:03, 1:09, 1:15, 1:21 and you can go from there. The best shot is 2:13. It takes me back to early adolescence where hard plastic classroom/lunchroom seats and aluminum bleachers/benches were common. If you angled your weight and anus in just the right manner and had the fuel to burn, you could seemingly deafen your nearby friends with a fart. I hesitate even posting this because I love this track and don't want to forever "taint" it with this interpretation but it's too late I guess. Great EP lol.

These square ass companies don't realize how effective this is. Times are finally changing but savvy folks know that when comedians like Tim Dillon or Bill Burr skewer the product in a funny way, it sticks better in the head than any sappy whistle-n-ukelele shit that the ad department drums up. For instance, I've bought Shari's Berries several times for the gals in my life and I might never have thought of that without listening to Bill Burr lose his shit at their 1-800-FRUIT contact number hahaha. We lost a real one with Norm. There's no way to replace him. All my favorite comedians owe a debt to him for sure.

This is worth tracking down in its original format because she does this weird head tilt as she looks you straight in the eye. It's somewhere between intimidation and seduction?

Simple Minds had some serious funk with this one. This bass player either left or was fired after this album and they settled into bassline mediocrity (I am a big fan but it's true). Maybe all that hooning on the bass was subtracting from Jim Kerr's efforts in the Bono Wars of ultimate 80s rock frontmen.

These things blow with the wind but I'm very close to selecting this as essentially the pinnacle of everything he's been trying to say musically as far as I'm concerned. If you can levy a criticism of the alleged genius of Richard, it's that he is indeed "kitchen sinking" us. Edits per millisecond, ideas per millimeter, fidgety tracks that don't rest due to all the clever making its way out. I feel like it all came together on synthacon in a bulletproof manner though. The way he moves among the hissy organ-like drum machine (what is it?), the 808, the DMX and the dad funk cop show break to direct the energy of the track is just mindblowing. You know he loved the straight abuse of the last 2 minutes of "54 Cymru Beats" and I did too but there's something to be said for restraint. Calling in a single aerial snare rush at 3:21 or doing staggered strafing runs on the DMX makes you ready for action without the fatigue. All synth bases covered: mewling Gameboy arpeggios from Drukqs, fat analogs that reflect the princely sums accumulated in mid-life, ghosty SAW II whispers in the periphery, vocoded phrases and spectral/experimental washes. There's not a box left unchecked but not in a way that sounds like you're scrolling through a preset menu. Every part "talks" to the other in a reciprocal and organic way. XMAS_EVE is obviously brilliant in the same respect but I'm doing a hard freeway exit at 7:29. I love the detour but more as an epilogue of sorts rather than the main body of the tale. I actually had this realization back in summer of 2019 when I did a Tuss nightwalk but after 2 years of deliberation, I'm ready more than ever to call it. "Pointless Thoughts and Observations" for sure but what else do you do in this life? Distraction and distraction hierarchy. A picture in Vanity Fair of drum machines on a red carpet asking "who programmed it best"?

I do have to bike in real quick and give a substantial deduction for the simulated voice mail in "These Things Will Come to Be". The cringe is intense enough but if it had concluded at "I wanted to say 'hi' so that's it...'hi'", I think I could have dealt with it. When she comes back with even more after the instrumental pause though...it's a big "bye" on that track for me.

This guy's grunt coming up sounds like when all the voices converge in the THX Deep Note

I can understand how the Jesus factor can rub folks the wrong way but Lawd reekris, when Cory Henry takes that organ to church on "24"...even Christopher Hitchens got his bony afterlife hands up. You'd have to be ice cold not to feel anything. Cory makes Gospel howl on the organ in the same way Jimmy Page made the blues explode on electric guitar.

It's so good. His Bandcamp blurb mentioned that he wanted to become a better producer on this record. Mission accomplished pal.

I'm a big fan of caro The new album "Heartbeats/Heartbreaks" is the lighter side of hyperpop. So much of this trend is blown out aggression, which is awesome but it's good to have the Quiet Storm end of the dial too. If I'm honest, the poppy stuff is fun but what made me buy it is the incredible ambient textures found all throughout the album. I'd pay 2x the asking price for "Drop In The Ocean" alone.

I'm not as prone to envy and merch fever these days but this one got me. It's the closest thing to capture Richard's true pisstaking spirit imo. There is a crossover Mac DeMarco appeal to it as well...another pisstaker for sure.

I'm super stacked for risk: male, 42, group A blood type, t h i c c. I am active but I am obese and I've been kidding myself for awhile because weightlifting is permissive of bloatlording but I should no longer accept that at my age. I did cut 23 kg at the end of '20 but it wasn't enough apparently. Even the exotic factors (high percentage of Neanderthal DNA) are true in my case. My 23andMe results put me in the top quartile of all humans alive today with respect to Neanderthal DNA and there is a connection to acute respiratory failure with COVID. So, I am monke that should not have survived. Time to look towards role models other than Hafthor "The Mountain" Bjornsson. Vegan marathoners perhaps.

It pains me to say it but the vaxx is no failsafe. I have to admit to some cocksureness since I was jabbed. I caught it last Saturday. It felt exactly like the 2nd shot by the following Wednesday so I knew that it had to be it. I shot straight off the cliff symptom-wise. The dry cough started to get really wet and grungy while clear snot poured continuously out of my nose. Thursday spiraled and by Friday, I had the distinct feeling that this thing could kill me anyway despite vaccination. I stumbled into one of our emergency monoclonal antibody infusion sites on Friday afternoon and got my tank topped off with Regeneron. I woke up Saturday with no cough, no fever and no body aches. It's very early Sunday morning and although my nose is still plugged, I feel 100% normal. It's the spookiest/most miraculous thing I've ever experienced. Anyway, I know I'm very lucky to have the access to both vaccine and infusion. It's impossible to say--I might have rallied and kicked it on my own but I can't explain the doom that was setting in. Although my life and health were literally saved, I have a gloomier outlook on this thing than ever. The titty twisting has just begun in some respects even though we're closing in on 2 years of mayhem.

Confession: I wound up revisiting the initial live sets so infrequently that I decided to sleep on the onesix crop. That gnawed on me over time so I wanted to splash for 1 in full 24 bit glory. I'll never be able to fully disentangle which way the influence went but I'm revisiting it right now and the spoopy enigma qualities are even deeper it seems. 2005 reflected a high point and Campfire Headphase was a saccharine return to 90s form. Things were really falling apart again by the time Tomorrow's Harvest hit and it portended the future all too well. Strangely, I hit Geogaddi and TH very hard. I almost never revisit MHTRTC, CH or the Twoism/Hi Scores era. It's like those 2 albums are musical number stations serving as warning signs that life is gonna take some chaotic turns. They say that we all have a negativity bias: the shite times in life stick out more profoundly in the mind than the good times. TL;DR: aBOCalyptic BOC is best BOC
