Marcus Schmickler's 'Altars Of Science' released on Editions Mego in 2007 includes some fucking sick deconstructed digital acid closer to the end. the lush release, it's quite good. sick silence use. Altars of Science, my welsh friends

yeah, i saw him live twice (once by himself and once with stephen o'malley as KTL) and it was awesome. when i saw him solo it was the first time i'd ever heard nice melodies in 'noise'.

the whole of Mego is tragically ignored on Watmm with the exception of many perfectly written posts by Khov

Thank you

Look at how posh this event is.

I like the album though. I like strange sounds, so.

OK so this'll really show my ignorance, but I thought an opera required singing in it. This looks more like an audio/video piece in a nice building.

It sounds quite restrained from those extracts, anyone know where the full piece can be located ?

oh man that event is ripe for a hecker/aphex twin party crashing style show

does anyone remember the story of when RDJ played at the famous avant garde club in new york the knitting factory? he went up on stage with a blender and a microphone, he then proceeded to blend the microphone while playing records on turntables made of sandpaper!

I'm on the look out for it at the moment, not found anything yet.

funny how this thread died out once the album dropped. wonder if it has anything to do with what they heard when it did. i've given it a thorough listen in different states of mind and didn't really enjoy it in any of them. i can take noise, i can take experimental pieces that don't follow any rhythm or beat... i can take it. this wasn't inspiring for me. the sounds weren't very interesting, the "progression" of the tracks is something i'd liken more to hecker fucking around with a fat modular synth and seeing what would come of it more than anything planned. i don't mean to rag on him too much, as i'm sure a lot went into it, but this doesn't capture me in any way. watching youtube videos of people wandering around his installations with confused looks, trying to see if sitting down or on this side of the room would make it any better basically solidified it for me. i don't think he should charge for this, it doesn't seem to fit that whole paradigm... you know... the one where you pay for something you'd like to hear more than once and outside of a presentation setting.
