My absolute favourite instrumental hip hop is Company Flow - Little Johnny From the Hospitul - breaks and instrumentuls vol. 1

It's amazing stuff. Get it ASAP. I dream of breaks and instrumentuls vol. 2, but it'll never happen. :(

no, i said i wish they would do it. but Mr. Len and Chaos haven't been hanging out any more. They both went their separate ways. I would die happy if they did a volume 2.

Sorry to bump the thread, but where should I start with Sun Ra, what are the essentials?

lol, what does sun ra have to do with instrumental hip hop? it really depends what era you're after. if you wanna check out the early hard boppish stuff, visits planet earth/interstellar low ways isn't a bad choice. if you wanna hear all-out free jazz, check out the live album nothng is... if you'd like to hear his awesome take on swing revivalism, check out the album reflections in blue.

Sun Ra gets sampled a fair amount. Madlib references him all the time.

Many of those tracks were produced solely by EL-P. I would say check out Collecting the Kid and the We are all going to burn in hell mixtapes as well. Maybe even Cannibal Oxstrumentals which is solid in its own right.

Necrobump.

Please, WATMM, recommend me your favorite instrumental hip hop. ?

I'd give my own recommendations, but they're either bleedingly obvious (J. Rawls, Petestrumentals) or they've seemingly disappeared off the internet (those beat tapes Lord Beatjitzu barfed out in late 2021 / early 2022 were hilarious).

Well, ok, there's still this:

Any bandcamp links I should dig through?

Yes, I suppose. However, there's stuff out there that has a bit more personality to it. More boom bap than study girl, I suppose.
