well think about the western world pre-1950 full-stop. the further back the worst it was - for the vast majority who weren't royalty or something.

things are scarier now because there's the ability to completely annihilate the human race i guess... but actual day-to-day living for people in the 1st world has really improved dramatically. it's not ideal obviously but really - it's now what you make of it for the most part. people didn't have that choice in the past.

google happiness indices for various countries, rich to poor, report back

pay attention to the ones where people still actually live in communities and know one another

I don't think the world is ending by any means, but there are certain progressions and widespread actions that I disagree with and make me very depressed.

So I wonder: will this feeling of impending doom and decay continue to hand over me for the rest of my life? Put another way: Lots of if not all people feel a similar way for reasons that are their own It's likely that certain events through the course of history have always been frightening and invoked a grim outlook for the future.

I would very much like to ask someone who has been alive for several decades whether or not this feeling is always with them. I imagine it becomes more acute with the shift away from the generational values they grew up with.

every day is a miniature apocalypse in this day and age. we've grown desensitized to even, we even love it. but it's there. in the back of our head. "the end".

when you die, the end will come. as will it for me, when i do. apocalypse is only one death away at every juncture.

i sometimes wonder, if we all actually knew that some big biblical cleansing was due.. would we struggle? maybe at first but... ultimately i don't think so.

btw not drunk, not high, not moody.

this is just something i think about every day, myself, is all.

the glen beck crowd def thinks this. They are buying gold, home farming books, survivalist books, building bomb shelters. Hes making them crazed apes

I lived through the cold war. Reagan, Nukes, Russia, the movie threads, Day after. .That time was waaaaay scarier to be honest than terrosist. Not that 9/11 wasn't shocking. It could all still happen. Anything could happen

the world is gone

it's pretty funny, you decrying the end of civilisation and demanding everyone MAKE A DIFFERENCE, from behind the comfort of your keyboard and monitor.

what's step #1 then?

Really? I think we have passed our prime.

Did people really have it that bad? They mostly had great communities and causes (regardless if they were meaningful or not, they spurred community spirit). We don't have jack shit. Making life consist of a career and buying shit wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for all the fucking isolationism.

People seemed to have some measure of intelligence before our time as well, everything's just getting stupider and stupider.

Yeah I think post-cold war people can never understand what it was like during the coldwar, or living in a world without the nuclear bomb.

There isn't anyone on this board who can understand what it was like living in a world without the nuclear bomb. As to the bit about living pre-1950s, yes, there might have been more of a community. It's what having that community meant, I'm not so clear on, as there were still wife-beaters, rapists, murderers, child-abusers, alcoholics, drug users in every community. People just turned a blind eye and whispered about it behind each others' backs.

If you go back pre-1900, you have way shorter life expectancies, fewer opportunities to travel, fewer opportunities to educate oneself, fewer choices in number of people to fuck, less choice in music, and no internet porn.

Yes, spouting off about the evils of capitalism and corporatism from the safety of your home is exactly like a revolution. Oh wait. No it's not.

I feel that our time hasn't quite come yet. We are part of an evolutionary cycle which has vastly evolved in such a small amount of time. We are as mould on bread. We grow and feed on all the earth has to offer which recieves all it needs from the sun. Eventually either we will end the human race ourselves or the evolutionary cycle will once again come around to wipe us out to make way for a new age.

Maybe the next species will be animals unable to communicate, maybe ground life (plants, trees etc) or maybe there will be a new kind of 'Human' which in a small amount of time will learn that fighting between each other won't be the best way to go about things.

Whatever happens I continue my life taking out what enjoyment I can as I go. I have no need to worry about how things will turn out in the end. I won't be around to find out.
