Here's the latest release on A+H Records. Tracks on this album were recorded between 2000 and 2010. Sounds are mostly Ambient IDM Techno. If you like stuff like Plaid, Black Dog, Matmos and such give this a listen.

 

Zygote releases “00/10,” a retrospective of material from 2000-2010

 

Zygote, an abstract electronic music project of Stephen Ruiz, aka DJ Stephen R., is set to release a retrospective album of material that spans the decade from 2000 to 2010. The material was extracted from hundreds of hours of recordings that were unearthed from DAT tapes, stacks of CDs, from thumb drives, cassette tapes and discarded hard drives. While the bulk of the material is unreleased, a few of the tracks here have alternative edits that were released, but these mixes share the nameless and sequential numeric titles to be in solidarity with the rest of the tracks on the record.

 

Originally conceived as “Zygote - The Mixtape,” a DJ mix compiled exclusively for Digital::Nimbus on KUCI radio, the project evolved into something much more. The end result of this evolution is a cross section of music that spans 10 years of the artist’s career and highlights the producer’s varied production techniques. From sound collage, to digital sound processing, to the use of linear sequencing tools, from analog to digital, the process was as varied as the songs themselves.

 

About Zygote:

 

Zygote is the brainchild of Stephen Ruiz, aka DJ Stephen R., founder of Architects and Heroes Records. With it’s origins in the Bay Area electronic music scene of the early aughts, Zygote was inspired by musicians that were at the forefront of the “laptop techno” movement. San Francisco Artists such as Kit Clayton, Kid606, J Lesser, Cex,Sutekh, Twerk, Safety Scissors and Matmos were all exploring new ways of producing and performing live electronic music at the time. It was this environment that was influential in paving the way for Stephen to launch his career as a recording artist, producer, DJ, and label owner.

 

The musical goal of Zygote has always been to use the mechanized process of electronic music production to convey complex human ideas through sound. With a decade of experience of navigating underground electronic music environs, Zygote is set to take these sound ideas to anew audience. With a newly formed line-up that includes new production partner Will Rosario (aka Asymmetrical Head), as well as guest contributions from a cast of vocalists and MCs, Zygote is embarking on the next chapter of sonic exploration. With a sound that’s influenced in equally by the early Warp Records,Hip-Hop, Techno, Dub and Experimental Music, the “Zygote Sound” is an aural landscape that is as much at home in an art gallery as it is on the dance floor.
