Both of the top seeds were defeated last round. After falling behind off the bat and then almost catching up, SPISH fell behind for good as Bioluminescent trees maintained its lead. Windows 95 stood no chance against the Rogue. Two exciting upsets.

In a 3rd upset, Homeless people with 808s demolished Elevator music for the space elevator. How did they do it? Some say they had less to lose.

The only match that went as expected was Broken GIFs beating Lichen.

Now we're left with four players that couldn't be any more different. Bioluminescent trees is representing the interesting nature topics, always present at every tournament but never going all the way. No, not even Deep Sea Creatures won. Could Bioluminescent trees pave the way for nature topics, and make them a serious possibility in future tournaments?

Broken GIFs is representing the computer topics. Could it redeem the fate of its fallen brother, Windows 95?

The Rogue is a solid candidate from the tried and true genre of astrophysics topics. Remember the mighty black holes, and arguably also the LHC? This player might be a safe bet.

And in the fourth corner we have a bunch of homeless people making some beats. This is a wild card if I ever saw one.

EDIT: Bracketology here

Come on HOMELESS!!!

So is a broken GIF where you go to link a GIF and it doesn't work because it's been taken away from wherever it was uploaded to?

Nah, missing GIFs are clearly ambient.

Broken gifs are when there's a missing frame (keyframe?) and the image bugs out. Akin to vhs aesthetics but you'll generally find that a broken GIF can give birth to something altogether absurd which decontextualises the subject.

Kaini?

the impending doom of Bioluminscent trees is bumming me out, because it's reminding me of Slime molds last year.

I'm in the same boat. Nature just can't compete with Space and Technology.

Broken Gifs don't strike me as very IDM. They're more TOBACCO, Com Truise, and the rest of the new electronic movement.

Bioluminescent trees deserve more from the technology people. As far as I understand it, they're a proposed form of urban lighting, that'd be realized through genetic modification.

Bioluminescent trees over broken gifs any day.

Yea, it's a perfect blend of Technology and Nature.

Plus, a world lit by organic light sources is very Sci-Fi. I thought IDM'ers loved that kind of thing.

I don't want to remove all the long phrasing of the Rogue planet, because that was how it was nominated. If it wins, it'll be the first time a long phrase has won, and that should be noted.

I added "The" to it, to make it a proper noun phrase. I might want to add a comma after the name, to push some of the description into the background a bit. I also want to replace "after being ejected from orbit" with "after having been ejected from orbit", because that tense seems to be more appropriate for the sequence of events (i.e. first it was ejected from orbit, then it started freely drifting in outer space); however, that big of a change might be too much of a ref interference.

Also, Bioluminescent trees for the comeback! How did broken gifs get this far, anyway?

Yeah, quite like the idea of broken gif music.

Doesn't have to be a breakcore shitstorm. I was imagining something more ambient, indeterminate and flickery; like oval or Mark Fell in his softer moments.
