Are cell-animated features of this level of quality still produced? All animation seems to be heavily computer generated now and it suffers for it in my opinion (and yes, I am aware that Akira featured some CGI as well, but it was very isolated). Ghibli? Very true: Studio Ghibli are definitely keeping it real where quality cel animation is concerned (with a subtle and tasteful addition of CGI) and the storylines are second-to-none; Princess Mononoke is probably my favourite animated film. But yeah, in terms of sheer aesthetics it really doesn't get much better than Akira. Disney's cel animation is fluid and skillful but they cannot approach the level of insane detail (eg. Tetsuo's transformation) in Akira. I get the sense that Otomo liked "Ecophony Rinne", and he asked them to do more of the same for the "Akira" film. Some of the tracks on "ER" are very, very similar to the tracks on "Akira OST". So now I'm pissed because I immediately bought that "super limited" 1LP version a while ago, I'd rather have the full 2LP one (obviously). And of course, that one is almost 30 euros now. I understand that they aren't the ones printing it, but even the label should understand that they are being pretty shitty. The consensus from others was that this is basically the way things go which in my opinion doesn't make it correct. It's sort of like currency manipulation in that they can really mess with the value of these records and impact a lot of people's expectations negatively with these practices. Adieu Posted May 27, 2014 Author Share Posted May 27, 2014 The most annoying thing to me about it is that snobbery aside the edition that I bought is actually not even the complete soundtrack even though it is labeled as such. (my bad I didn't check it thoroughly). Not only that but they just released a complete 2x LP version with all the tracks recently. My perspective is that I want the music, and sometimes the medium is also artful which is a bonus. So when they released the edition I purchased I bought it because I wanted a cherished soundtrack on vinyl. Come to find out later that it isn't the complete soundtrack and now a new edition is available that is the complete version for a little more cash than I paid originally which is quite frustrating. What should I do now? Sell my copy, or have 1 complete copy and 1 inferior copy? Funny enough some commenters claimed these first and second editions runs were considered "special" because they were first even though from a content standpoint they are hugely inferior to the new 2x LP version. Bleep sold two versions - a 2LP which contained all the (CD) tracks and a single 12" (I think this one) which has a selection of a few tracks. Now there is another single 12" release by another label as well, with a different selection of tracks... So three versions. Should've just bought the CD and be done with it. And if you haven't watched Short Peace yet, go do so! Combustible is fantastic and has an amazing taiko drum soundtrack. Hope that gets a vinyl release too. Also to add to the weirdness, it seems that they are back in stock where a few weeks ago it was sold out (the 2LP edition) across the board with one on eBay for like $130. I saw Norman Records had it up on their site, but they "had to order it".... I've been in this situation before, and I figured I'm screwed and my only chance now is ridiculous eBay prices or wait forever for a reseller on discogs. I went ahead and ordered it from Norman just for the hell of it really, expecting a message saying they're sorry but couldn't find it to order. To my surprise they emailed me back within a day or so saying that they got a copy! I thought I had lucked out because I literally checked everywhere and Norman was the only one with even a slight option to buy this.
