Guest disparaissant
the original is incomprehensible shit anyway. a mini series adaptation of the manga could be "quite good". I agree actually. I find the original IMPRESSIVE but it's not... good. It's a spectacle: certainly amongst the most amazing animation, designs and music EVER CREATED. But other than that it's pretty meh. i honestly had no idea what the hell was going on the first time i watched it. the manga made it make some more sense but it was still so utterly abridged that it was really hard to appreciate on a plot level. everything else about it was amazing though, spot on. they should just get the original team of animators back together and do the whole damn series. Joyrex
The Manga of Akira was far superior to the movie... the story for the movie was too condensed and left out critical bits of info. If anything, I'd like them to do an Akira anime that chronicles the full manga properly. THAT would be worth doing instead of trying to turn another cartoon into a live action movie. If this movie ever gets out of production hell, it still probably won't be as bad as the Dead or Alive or Tekken live-action films...

It's comprehensible, it's just total garbage. Dialogue was all like, "I am bigger than ever before, so you can't call me a kid" "No I'm big man" "WE MUST FIGHT" "AAAAHHHH!" "AAGGGHHHH!" Music and animation were amazing though. Edit: I felt like the whole film was a porno, but instead of the plot functioning to lead to sex, it'd lead to a mind-blowing action sequence. Guest disparaissant
also something making sense on acid doesn't mean much, does it? i mean. lots of things that don't make sense make sense on acid. or psychedelics in general. i understood the bottom of my coffee table for like 3 hours once while on shroomrs. Makes me want to re-read the manga again!

gmanyo
The movie was great in my opinion. I feel like reading books/comics before seeing movies can skew your perspective of the movie, because it's not like the original. Personally, I want them to be different so that I'm not just watching something I already know.
Adieu
Well the reason that I'm upset about it is mainly because it could be such a great film. Many people don't really understand Akira and wouldn't give it a chance because it is an anime/animated film. I think a lot of anime is pretty horrible and especially because it has retarded dialogue. (Like girls making high-pitched sounds and yelling in high-pitched voices that force me to turn the volume down) I have found that a lot of the plot lines could be adapted to a modern sci-fi film very well though. Akira is a really cool idea and a great movie that has a good deal of nostalgia for me. I can imagine this movie being done well and being one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time. It could be on par with movies like Blade Runner and Dune. Unfortunately, I feel that if they mess it up that it will never get another shot at being a live-action movie. Also, I think Aphex & Luke Vibert should do the soundtrack, but I would settle for Autechre or something. I just hate watching people ruin something I care about and it makes me feel helpless. They are cool, but I only like some of their songs. They are good at creating atmosphere though. yeah but also fuck that we need a geinoh yamashirogumi reunion seriously, that soundtrack is incredible and perfect The music was cool, but I think it could be done better by a modern electronic artist and match the more modern feel of a live-action sci-fi film. Ivan Ooze
I thought the ending climax was pretty gantz graf to me i'm sure the autechre dudes watched that movie a 100times edit: and no way i'm watching any remake of this
Cryptowen
I love just how immersive the manga is, with the constant barrage of super-detailed cityscapes & all the characters with their own sideplots & motivations, and how it's sequenced in such a way that you can read though several thousand pages in relatively no time at all. Guest disparaissant
i was actually disappointed in how short a time it took me to read it but then i thought about how expansive it really was and not disappointed any more. it's ludicrously detailed and absolutely perfect in the "easy to read" department.
