ascdi
Well, there are two new Prince albums. Sorta? And one is fuzz rock sung by people who aren't Prince? And the other is EDM produced with the assistance of a former Deadmaus collaborator? Sure, makes sense… watmm, I wanna be clear with you. I purchased these albums. They are, as you may expect, SPOTTY. But… I love Prince. I will not tolerate any run-of-the-mill 21st-century-Prince hatred in this thread. This thread is for CONSTRUCTIVE discussion Re: wringing Princely enjoyment out of these two albums. First observations: these albums are mastered ridiculously loud. Like Clark loud. It's crazy each album has a different version of "FUNKNROLL" on it. Pretty sure the versions are both bad Art Official Age strikes me as the stronger record after a single listen. Not only Breakfast Can Wait, but also some solid 20ten-style vibes and futuristic zydeco synth fizz party jams There is a very beautiful jam called Another Love hiding near the end of thee 3RDEYEGIRL album, however. Not sure what other recurring enjoyment I am going to be able to wring out of that record, though WATMM CD CLUB PACKAGING NOTES: the 3RDEYEGIRL CD has some very nicely-produced liner notes included ? Rubin Farr
He actually put Breakfast Can Wait on the album, lol damn why can't he sing on the whole rock album? Psychedelic Prince would be unstoppable!

ascdi
Gave Plectrum Electrum another spin today, it’s growing on me a little bit. Still, some major clunkers on there.

Rubin Farr
The Musicology tour was great, half the arena was empty so we got 3rd row seats! Also the album was free @ the door.

Zephyr_Nova
Musicology is criminally underrated. I'll definitely be checking these out. I always like/love roughly half of every Prince album, and don't care for/wince at the rest. I believe he's the only artist I can say that for. He's responsible for some of both my favorite and most hated songs of all time. Might be exaggerating a bit there, but it's almost true.
Aphex_Squarepusher_Twin
I prefer AOA than PE... PE is a fusion style (or funk fusion or rock fusion) & AOA is electro-funk-soul! don't care what do u think about these albums... i love them. it's an evolution (especially AOA)
delet...
I wanted to like it as usual, but as usual he channels so much cheese, has no higher aesthetic calling filter. Skimming through I'd be like, oh it's a funky proper prince track and then, oh fS.
Drix
I'm a huge Prince fan, and I mean huuuge. Been collecting releases for years and have over 200 bootlegs, as well as all his albums and most of his other official stuff. I was really looking forward to this for a long time, but when I finally had them I merely skipped through them and though, ok.. more Prince. Nothing new here, just more. Sad thing, I know. I hope i can fixmyselfup real soon... From what I've gathered I quite like both of them although I've never been a big fan of Prince songs without him singing, so AOA will be the one I will pick up again first. Can't remember the exact track I'm thinking of. The Zep riff you're thinking of is from The Ocean. The first half of that Plectrumelectrum riff is also remarkably similar to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1fUgpYSdpo

manmower
I liked how he completely forgot to plug his guitar in, took forever to realize what was going on even though the cord was dangling from the mic stand in front of him, and then when he plugged it in the song instantly got 10 times better.
