anyone updated from lion/mavericks to this? i've heard there are some wi-fi problems and not all 3rd party apps have been upgraded so i'm holding off, but i'm curious if it's better, smoother etc. than mavericks (that's what i was running before)

i'm updated itunes and already wondering if there is a way to change the look so it's like the version before whatever this is.

I kinda like the flat look, but I'm gonna hold off for a little while. I wonder if they've fixed the annoying as fuck keyboard focus problem that only I seem to care about, ie. copy dialog steals keyboard/mouse focus when it begins or ends a copy action. Why can't it just run in the background or as a status bar that doesn't require its own god damn window?!

I've been using the beta for the past few months and it's great. No problems with incompatible software. And it's great to be able to get iMessages on your Mac and reply using your keyboard.

srsly?

been having the opposite experience. shit's been glitchy as fuck during the beta, the release is kinda good enough, barely though..

I'd wait a few months till things are polished more.

yeah if this is a no go with autocad and rhino i'm up shit creek - GONNA WAIT

my one beef with new itunes (and old itunes, beyond the obvious failings of course) is that the left-side artist list thumbnails shows the first album art alphabetically as opposed to reflecting the way you've decided to show your albums in the main view, which for me is chronologically, so instead of showing me SAW 85-92, it shows me the cover art of analord 10 in the thumbnail! Really annoying!!!

I've been running it since it was in beta (not private), and it started off buggy, but by the time they got to the public beta, it was pretty solid. I love the flat look, and the transparency - it actually adds a lot of colour to an otherwise monochromatic UI without a bunch of skeuomorphic nonsense.

The only application I have had any issues with is MP4Tools, a program I use to quickly convert .mkv to .m4v files for playback in iTunes/Apple TV. It works, but will crash constantly, and unless you quickly dismiss the crash dialogue, the program will halt.

I also find Yosemite to be rather fast, faster than Mavericks, and this is running on a late 2011 MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM.

phling, would you say that at this point you're more of an anti-semite than a yo-semite?

lel! :emotawesomepm9:

ok as a point of reference... this is what Apple's own web page for the new iMac looks like on my Macbook Air with latest Safari/Yosemite:

OK, something's seriously wrong with your computer - you might try clearing your cache in Safari, for starters.

thx doc, but this has nothing to do with cache. It's probably some glitch with GPU memory that can happen with very large textures, in a software that has been rushed out to meet a ridiculous yearly release cycle...

just posted because it's funny that it happens with Apple fancy website itself. :D

with every new update i say to myself that i should wait till they make it stable and when apple eventuality make it stable they soon after introduce a new version and i'm at the beginning of the cycle again. that's why i'm still on snow leopard. this time maybe i should just simply upgrade it, without thinking. btw...if it's working fine for phling why shouldn't it work fine for me... :emotawesomepm9:

but on the other hand, my system is still working fine tbh. no probs what so ever! the programs i use the most are ableton, max, supercollider, amadeus pro and they're all working perfectly well. the biggest upgrade i see with yosemite is tighter integration between osx and ios, so still nothing vital enough that i'd like to jeopardize the perfectly well operating system for at this point. how long should i wait before upgrading? not sure, but i guess that yosemite could be the last os that allows direct upgrade for snow leopard so i should probably upgrade before end of the next year. shall see...

I have been eagerly awaiting the return of a flat dock since Leopard, because that faux-3D perspective made no fucking sense, and as minor as that issue is, it is probably going to push me to upgrade tonight instead of waiting for the point update like a rational person.

Massive first world problem right there.

Why upgrade, ever? I'm happy with things as they are circa 2007 thank you very much.

security patches

Meh, I haven't had my secret jazz side project stolen yet.
