yeah.. knew it was going to that place.ย

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has informed the United States that he opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state as part of any postwar scenario.

Britain-based charity Oxfam said on Thursday that the daily death toll of Palestinians in Israelโ€™s war on Gaza surpasses that of any other major conflict in the 21st century, while survivors remain at high risk due to hunger, diseases and cold, as well as ongoing Israeli bombardments.

yeah this election is going to be rough. I'm really really torn here because

1) i dont want trump to win and think we should do everything we can to stop it

2) in the same way i cant accept that some republicans are ignoring their own morals and voting for trump because he's in their party, i feel like supporting genocide is a moral line that I can't cross regardless ofย  the circumstances. This is further complicated by the fact that both major parties officially support Israel unconditionally.

I've never not voted for a presidential election since I was eligible but strongly considering it this time around ๐Ÿ˜ž. I just really wish nikki haley would get the nom so should could just go win and do all the republican tax cut things for 4 years and we could call it a draw

She would most likely be just as bad if not worse than Trump or Biden imo. Pretty sure her campaign is mostly funded by financiers and defense contractors. I saw a video of her saying at one of her rallies that October 7th is Putin's birthday, and that since Hamas attacked Israel on this date, that Vlad must have played a role in orchestrating the attack. She would probably do everything she could to confront Russia and Iran directly with military power - a hawkish, feckless, and stupid as shit cunt albeit her balls are not as big as H Dog's (Hillary Clinton).

i donโ€™t like her either, would not vote for her but at the same time iโ€™m not worried that she would try to overturn an election or fill cabinet positions with unqualified nutjobs.ย

yeah.. she's more of a typical centrist trying say the right things to get elected and attract people. business as usual. trump is a potential end to democracy and destruction of federal institutions that for better or worse make things function somewhat in expected ways here.ย

WORLD U.S. pauses UNRWA funding as U.N. agency probes Israel's claim that staffers participated in Oct. 7 Hamas attack By Haley Ott January 26, 2024 / 12:01 PM EST / CBS News The United States government said Friday that it was temporarily pausing additional funding for UNRWA, the United Nations humanitarian agency that serves Palestinians, as the organization said it had opened an investigation into allegations from Israel that some of its staff members participated in Hamas' Oct. 7 attack.

UNRWA said it had fired the employees who were accused.

"The Israeli authorities have provided UNRWA with information about the alleged involvement of several UNRWA employees in the horrific attacks on Israel on October 7," Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA Commissioner-General, said in a statement Friday, according to the Reuters news agency. "To protect the agency's ability to deliver humanitarian assistance, I have taken the decision to immediately terminate the contracts of these staff members and launch an investigation in order to establish the truth without delay."

I really don't like those trendy videos where they talk about how the state of izrael or at least the government will fall, how it will all backfire on them, how America is also on the brink and similar, because that narrative only softens the opposition against the state by giving some false hope that the war will end soon and that people will get at least some satisfaction/compensation. I see these videos as part of a wider zionist propaganda, whether they are intentionally doing it or not.

Weirdly enough it was a few days ago. Blinked and you would have missed it. It was reported on BBC bitesize. Usually there's a huge fanfare and the whole wide world has to stop and feel sorry for them. Don't get me wrong, you know I'm no Nazi sympathiser, I could never be that because all my grand parents would turn in their grave if I was. Just the constant BS of one massive bunch of cunts complaining about another massive bunch of cunts and using it as a mechanism for years to thwart any criticism of them does my head in. Hypocrisy on a criminal level.

This a great point. I sometimes try to focus on what is happening domestically in Israel during the war. Seems like the majority of Israeli citizens support the war, although families of people who were taken hostage by Hamas (and are still presumably alive) are getting more and more furious at their government's decision to wage war instead of negotiate for hostage release.

Have heard some analysts say that, even at 100 days into the war, this is still only the beginning of this military conflict. Prime Minister Netanyahu will not stop, they say, because just prior to the war he was facing corruption charges and was very unpopular because of reforms to the judicial branch of Israel's government that would have weakened the judicial branch and disrupted the balance of power. There were weeks of public protests in relation to the judicial reform thing that he was pushing for.

On top of this, if there was a ceasefire and things calm down, Netanyahu will have to answer for the October 7th attacks, how it was allowed to happen. Him and his cabinet are responsible for Israel's security, and October 7th was a complete disaster for them.

For these reasons, he will most likely keep the war going for as long as possible, and Biden will keep the arms and money flowing unimpeded. Feel like the only thing that would stop him is if his campaign managers and donors decide that he is exposing himself in ways that would cause less people to vote for him (and I think that some of this damage is already done and irreversible, but I guess they have decided at this point that it is still not enough to cost him the election).

Mean while, the ICJ issued its preliminary order this week on the genocide case, the first step in what will most likely be a trial that last for multiple years. Mearsheimer wrote a short article about it.

Quote

The Order clearly states that there is: 1) plausible evidence that Israel has the intent to commit genocide; and 2) there is plausible evidence that Israel is committing genocide.

In response to that dire situation the court ordered Israel to stop committing those acts that appear to be genocidal, and to preserve any evidence that bears on this matter, obviously for the trial ahead.

i didn't take this particular video that way at all. seems a valid geopolitical narrative of possibility. right when this all kicked off similar things were bing said. about how the far right in israel are to blame, israel is the least safe place for jews to live etc.. i don't think it softens any opposition to the state. if anything it empowers "reasonable" people and partially lifts the veil off the rot at the core of israel's efforts to dehumanize palestinians as a matter of policy/education/cultural imperative or however one wants to frame it.ย

the zionists/far right in israel want israel to remain a serious choice for jews of the world to migrate to. a solution to all their problems.. and israel is largely powered by population expansion so if people stop moving there or leave it's going to be problematic for whatever their vision.ย

i see your point how that could probably create a panic or fear in some jews around the world about israel declining. and perhaps creating a "we have to save israel by moving there" type of thing in the jewish diaspora but that sounds like a pretty weak possibility to me but that's just my opinion. ย perhaps that will work to get some of the more extremist types to move there but overall i don't think it's something that could be sustained.ย

as it is, a huge part of the world is pretty obviously against what is happening with this situation and i don't think people are going to forget about it any time soon. i do agree that this has further complicated international relations for countries in the west and thrown all kinds of normalizing relations type plans under the bus.ย

edit: and obviously, i'm a casual observer and not some kind of expert.. that video is one possible narrative. as we know.. anything can and will happen at anytime ย and there's not reason anything has to make sense
