How does the World view America these days?
ignatius replied to Rubin Farr's topic in General Banter
hmm. wonder why this is being made a big story now? been 20+ years. saudi connection to 9/11.. dude filming the capitol and often with 2 saudi diplomats apparently.. refers vaguely to "the plan" in the video. dun dun dun! part of the evidence the families are using to sue saudi government accusing them of being complicit/responsible for the attack. wonder if this will go anywhere beyond 60 minutes.. -
there's a documentary about the guy who designed those and the earthships from the 90s that's pretty good. i forget what it's called but probably an easy google search. edit: oh here it is

they will degrade. maybe that's what they're waiting on. the tapes to go bad so they can bake them to be played one time into a 2nd tape machine or computer. "there's nothing quite like the sound of a multitrack tape playing for the last time.. as the oxide comes off the tape onto the tape machine heads it turns to goo and ruins the tape machine.. the sound is incredible though"

ignatius replied to dcom's topic in New & Upcoming Releases
do they eventually put this stuff on bandcamp? i've seen some things there over the years but it's a mini mystery tracking stuff down sometimes. -

totally.... they've been living on borrowed time for what seems like forever... it's pure luck a cat 5 hasn't hit dead center miami and put miami beach underwater. i lived through a handful of hurricanes over there. small ones and one big one. Andrew 1992 was an hour south of where i lived and it still was a nightmare. boarded up 3 houses that day then passed out at my moms.. got woken up at 3am by a big tree falling over on the fence outback. mom didn't get power back for like 13 days or something. there's so many more people living in south florida now that it would be pretty awful. need for resources, aid, etc the cost is insane. also, tangent..

Sooner or later banks will stop issuing mortgages for coastal homes because they will be uninsurable. Homeowners insurance in Florida is already like $10k a year and that’s through a federal program. I think the state has their own program too. Also, property tax is like $8k on top of that for a typical home. Prices are ridiculous for homes even in sprawling burbs in west south FL. One direct hit of a big hurricane is going to be difficult to deal with after the storm. Insurers have already left the state for certain types of coverage. State budget will balloon to cover insurance payouts. Fingers crossed the predicted busy hurricane season misses population centers. Ugh.

Benn Jordan (aka the Flashbulb) Has A YouTube Channel
ignatius replied to Joyrex's topic in Music Discussion
i like his youtube channel usually. not every video gets my interest but he does a good job of shitting on spotify and the weird sound things he chases.. or general commentary. his enthusiasm and snark are good.- 18 replies

that's pretty much what they talk about in the video. mono crop trees for wood production post ww2 wasn't well thought out in terms of variety etc.. just quick resource production for all the things. bark beetle is doing them a 'favor'. seems like they'll figure out something resilient for the region. in terms of 'old growth forests' it's a tiny amount of what used to be. there's patches of it but nothing like what it was. the ecosystems get wrecked whenever there's any development and harvesting.. so protecting what's left is good idea.. regenerating where it makes sense also a good idea.. but yeah.. can drive up to mt st helens and look at the signs of when it was all replanted.. after the top blew off.. but also logging and everything else. to get the biodiversity back to anything like what it was it all needs to be regenerated some and left the fuck alone for a long ass time.. anyway.. it's one of the few "positive" stories i've seen lately. there's others but they mostly sound like hopium. edit: also PFAS, republicans, Wisconsin. Wisconsin Republicans block PFAS cleanup until polluters are granted immunity https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jun/15/wisconsin-pfas-cleanup

i don't think maxkevincomedy has ever been to california -
furiosa looks like popcorn movie.. almost went to see it a week ago but didn't. maybe i'l break and see it in the theater. i do like popcorn. seeing mel gibson as old max would be well weird for lot's of reasons.. one being he's lowkey blacklisted isn't he? i mean.. he's made his way into a couple things but seeing him come forward in some blockbuster movie would be a gamble w/the state of things.
