  1. I never joined any social media sites, and never will. People habitually dismiss this as a by-product of my age, but the real reason is that I've been programming web backend software for all my adult life (I've been doing it way before the first dotcom bubble burst), and I'm extremely privacy and security conscious, so I know exactly how (and why-how) the sites work - both technically and psychologically - and how they've been specifically engineered to prey on users, the true product sold by the companies running the sites. The sociological, sociopsychological, and societal damage they've caused is incalculable and irreversible. I would have a metric crapton more to say about them, but I would just bore everyone, so I'll refrain.
  2. Skipped a wide swath of other yet unlistened vinyl to spot-check this as it's hot right now. Yes, it's good, in part harkening back to the classic Humanoid sound and style while bringing forth plenty of fresh ideas, too. I sing with the choir and think that it's a bit odd that no download code is included, but. Pre-ordered the coloured vinyl, but I was probably at the end of the list as I got note that it was sold out - so I defaulted back to black. Although I've been into electronic (dance) music for several decades I'm still repeatedly amazed by the versatility and longevity of the 303 (et al.). The simplicity of it is deceiving, the expressive possibilities an ever-blooming fractal of squelches, squirts, twangs, and squeaks.
  3. Finally got around to this in my vinyl backlog, I repeat myself, but Karsh doesn't disappoint - horizon painting music. Not available in digital yet, but I guess sooner or later via Karsh himself.
  4. Another digital self-release from Altered Sense, from Sam McQueen. Beautiful and enticing, also made me revisit the Dreams In Sepia album on a.r.t.less and grab the other two releases on Indigo Aera and Delsin. Highly recommended.
  5. We're Going Deep has put out three V/A 12"s (fourth upcoming) besides this, and they're worth your while, too. House, electro, acid, downtempo - highly recommended - just check out the artist roster.
  6. Emotec on Bandcamp (nothing there yet, but releases will be out in digital, too).
  7. It's on my wantlist, but I feel it might be too neurotic sounding to my tastes, there are some hyperpopish elements that rub me the wrong way.
  8. Back in the day I had to search high and low to get this on vinyl, and it still seems to command a decent enough price. All tracks are exclusive to this release, and Steel Wind's original version can be found on the Get Lost compilation.
  9. MOY is shaping up to a new favourite of mine, Dynamics of Acid is a brilliant acid breaks album and his upcoming releases on his own label and Batrachian are great. Lend them your ears.
  10. The recent passing of Kelli Hand reminded me of her collaborative project/label with Kero, Kerohand. Couldn't find them in digital, so alas, they seem to be vinyl only.
  11. Besides their music, I've always liked the graphic design side of Detroit Underground. I bought this record on vinyl just for the cover, but I'll get the digitals for listening, too. It's a good great record, some of the recent DetUnd output hasn't been this interesting.
  12. I recently ended up browsing Triplicate Records' Bandcamp which might be of interest to some, here are a the available compilations as a taster - all except the latest one (Tapes Vol. 3) are PWYW. Order is chronological from old to new. Recommended.
  13. I have another set of digitals with only the tracks from the vinyl release, and they sound a bit fuller and louder, there's more "meat" than the ones from Nuron's Bandcamp. Here are the waveforms loaded into Audacity: The one on top is Eau Rouge from Nuron's Bandcamp, the bottom one is the same track from another source. It's visually obvious that the Nuron Bandcamp version is thinner and quieter - but I think the main difference is in loudness, not sound quality. I'm not a sound engineer, so I can't tell you more than that - but different mastering targets, maybe? I have listened to these from vinyl countless times, digitally not so much, but vinyl adds frequencies and fullness due to environmental feedback, listening to digital doesn't do that so I would hazard a guess that mastering for digital is done differently from vinyl. But as I said I'm not an audio engineer, someone else might have more insight into this. Or we could just ask Nurmad. On my setup they sound good enough for my ears.
  14. Now that I look at the notification email, it says: so it could (or could not) be that it was a limited issue. But e.g. Mindcolormusic has certain releases available only on Bandcamp Fridays, so it might (or might not) become available again in a month or so. Zero regrets picking up the CD immediately regardless of the price.
  15. Nye's on a roll, another The Elusive Man album. Classic IDM sounds.
  16. Aeon Cub's inaugural album, the tree tasters sound great. Recommended.
  17. I've been in contact with Nuron and he had this to say about the prices and extras: I don't know if this carries over to the tape as well, but I would assume so.
  18. There's also the made-to-order t-shirt, too bad it's white. I've got a few of the earlier ones, some black/greys and the Detromental purple, but I'll pass on this, sweat and/or deodorant spoils white shirts very quickly. I got the USB drive, 32 GB is good for digital DJing.
  19. After 17-odd years I'm still trying to get my SO to understand this - the same goes for books. I have shifted aggressively towards digital, so the shelves are not overflowing at the same pace as they were a few years ago, but there's always piles and stacks, packages and other assorted mailing detritus somewhere.
  20. That's my physical release wantlist - but you'll have to take into account that I've been DJing for about 30 years and I'm, for a want of a better word, a glutton for music. Then again, that 2263 release wantlist one Bandcamp has accumulated only over the past three years, the Discogs one has had almost 20 years. That should give some perspective on the digital release firehose compared to physical. I haven't yet adjusted to the fact that I'm now a father and that I don't have oodles of loose time to filter music as I did before making a small human. Change is difficult, especially to a neurodivergent like me.
  21. Amateurs. That's releases, not single tracks. See also
