The Offical PSYCHEDELIC thread...disscusions of all things music, art, hallucinatory, etc

Page one started a bit rough, so best to skip on to page 2 :)

---------------------------------------

This shall be the place to post your most recent discoveries of "psychedelic" music, art, philosophy, whatever, Please no arguing about which band is more eco conscious that the other. And yes festivals like woodstock create a lot of garbage that goes into landfills. This is about the music and how it takes you on a mental journey.

---------------------------------------

Okay here's a format that you CAN GO BY IF YOU WANT ,for this thread to keep it organized, but just posting names is fine too (an embedded youtube would be nice along with it tho):

****To confuse people less, this started out as a thread about me complaining about my loss of interest in DNB, hence some comments remain. However it took a turn to the psychedelic and that was much more exciting and It prompted me to make this thread :)****

------------------------------------------------

By psychedelic i don't mean "jam band" "bands that are all melodic and then bust out into metal (tool), or primary (though very talented) simple singer based bands (white stripes as an example).

Some Dnb, some psy trance, etc are well accepted but give a lil background, info, and samples. Your own music is also accepted and encouraged. Please note any trance i recommend is not you typical "cheesy trance: great effort has been put into it to be psychedelic.

For now I can recommend:

Pink Floyd (duh) (any store)

Velvet underground (any store)

Plaid (bleep)

Trance nations cd's 1 & 2 (can order off amazon)

Super best trance III (hard to find)

Aphex twin Select Ambient works I and II (anywhere)

[some]Frank Zappa

Live ween (Live in chicago dvd)

Amon Tobin (ninja tune website)

Smashing Pumpkins - Gish (any store)

[some]Bjork

Haujobb

Infected Mushroom - Classical Mushroom (amazon)

...I will continue later I'd love for this thread to keep going :)

i'mnot actually in a spastic mood...i jsut used the laemness to draw attention to the topic...

in other news i got a preview of the antartica comp day before yesterday, its sounding really awesome...i wish i could find a label to pick it up...i emailed mikep at planet mu but got no response :( but i assume having numerous non mu artists on there would create quite a logistical conflict

do tell...

you mean like the ltj buken crowd?

edit: bukem

I will wholly and without shame admit that ak1200's drowning is what got me into dnb btu after that i was fully immersed. But not really lking msh else of his (ak's) stuff, but lots of others. m yfriend freedie really turned me onto jungle and my friend cris turned me onto what most people would call ""good" jump up not jus the breandownbuildupbreakdownbuilup etc....it was only years after that that i realized that squarepusher indeed included many artifacts of dnb into his music

plz excuse my typing i am typing in the dark with a broken kb

Captain Nemo ran the crew of the Nautilis with an iron fist and this what we all must do to get ahead in life, forming opinions and categorizing within each new programming situation modified to our own personal specifications, rocking the colour wheel and sound spectrum, breaking it up into a million pisces. :pedobear:

i.e. I'm stoned and listening to Broadcast and The focus Group<<<<<<<AWESOME!

well grooverider and some other unamed jump up stuff my friend chris used to spin out live and in his bedroom are some of my favorite dnb..i just hate that it never evolved past the boom0cak0bomcak0boomcak0boom0cak WHOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMp boomcak etcec

also i loved pendulum's hold your color not somuch for the song but just for th production, if that production had come around 10-15 years earlier i think thnigs wouldve been amazing and dnb would've taken off into a whole new spectrum....but electronic music ebbs and flows so much its hard to tell whether i'm remotley correct on that or not

I'm about to get really fucking high

Do it!

Do it hard!

Sobriety is for people that have done too many drugs...

I think I am almost there....

enjoy while you can :emotawesomepm9:

Seriously....the only reason I listen to most music is if it's psychedelic levels are high enough and all the records karmamramer named are tripped out as fuck! IDM = PSYCHEDELIC

most psychedelic thing I have heard in years in 'Seven Forty Seven' by BoC....

also if squarepusher

did a band with kj for teh dnb bits

with me on guitar vocals and synths with ...

charlie clouser on extra synths - he did the entire remix below in just a few days

as well as this one with only a nord modular 1 and a sampler

he did this entire remix

and danney carrey

as extra drummer fir teh tribalness

and of course victor wooten on bass for the slower more melodic non spazzy square pusher stuff

i think it would be the new funky danceable psychedelic pink floyd

oh and wisp DJ Pleaze and Kid koala to tag team with me when i'm not behind laptop and am playing guitar./ singing

Well just to rattle some off that are particularly psychedelic in my book:

Music:

Broadcast and the Focus Group - Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age

25altsounds4545.jpg

...already mentioned but I can't get this album enough praise

The Grateful Dead - Fillmore West 1969

3cdsetbonus.jpg

...I know you were trying to avoid the "hippy" thing, but I had to put this one on here

Shalabi Effect - The Trial of St. Orange

shalabi-effect-the-trial-of-st-orange.jpg

...the build-up in "St. Orange" is fucking immense!

Björk - Volta

Bjork_Volta_1.jpg

Boredoms - Super Roots 9

B000LPRKTI.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_V43942126_.jpg

...live chaos by Japanese experimental noise (whatevayacallit) band)

Can - Tago Mago

can-tago-mago-persimusic1.jpg

...behemoth 1971 Krautrock album; fluctuates from funky to terrifying

Emeralds - What Happened

333.jpg

...I guess you could call it noise. Very twinkly and ethereal IMO

Brian Eno & David Byrne - My Life in the Bush of Ghosts

byrne-eno-life-bush-ghosts.jpg

...bizarre early 80s sample mashup and jungle-funk - try "Mea Culpa" or "Regiment" for a taste

Jaga Jazzist - The Stix

542.jpg

...maybe not their best album, but probably their most psychedelic

Matmos - The Civil War

Mat-tCW.jpg

...just plain weird!
