i still think the LTM is unbelievable wankerness. i dont realy care about all thi stuff very much any more, but i do think you are a complete wanker for the LTM forum joyrex, you lost my respect then.

this. so much for a community when a select few are included in their own little sect.

But I am not cool about the ezkerraldean banning. I didn't see any blatantly racist shit posted by him, some jabs at jews here and there but I took it as an ironic thing with him being a fan of klezmer music and all. One could argue that even ironic or racism in jest shouldn't be accepted, but on the other hand I had hoped that we would be more thick skinned than that and not get all hurt for what gets said on an internet fan message board for marginal electronic music. (And reading about August von Mackensen wiki page, he seemed more opposed to the Nazi regime than for it, so pretty weak if that was the straw that broke Joyrex back).

Wasnt the ironic racism that was the problem, it was the small bits of disinformation and generalisation that was placed into posts under the guise of fact, well that and a couple of out and out paki comments. I just left it, as last time I pointed it out with another poster who would layer posts with subtle racism, I was told by most other posters that I was being a twat and said poster was salt of the Earth. Eventually he went the whole way, with a series of seemingly near breakdown posts that left no ambiguity. So I figured this time i'ld let let time sort it out.

Ive always been worried by ironic racism, as it opens the door to real racism, especially when you cant see visual expresion as well. But sometimes its impossible to avoid =)

I found the "porn" threads to be perfectly valid. It's not like watmm was flooded with porn threads.

I can see what Joyrex is saying, but I think genban is better with them.

There are many beautiful women in the world that deserve get recognition for their physique.

It's a slippery slope.

Today, it's titties. Tomorrow, it's Ceephax.

I thought he said squee or did I misread?

You misread. Just getting Squee's attention, cause he asked me where I came from. Been here a long time, probably since maybe 2004

I just guessed youve been banned at some point, hence the low post count, and were looking for a reason to stir shit up. But if youre doing this purely for the good of the forum and free speech, then nice one, I have concerns about the validity of deleting ms paint theads as well. Just not a huge priority to me.

Wrong. In regards to being banned. Just took a little hiatus, and well didn't remember the name I used to be honest. So I just started a new account. Even asked Joyrex when I re-enlisted, to get old name. He gave me options, I just chose to go with new account. Thats right, I wanted to start shit up, because of the free speaking that was allowed at one point here, but now its limited. I see others feel the same way. Oh well, glad to see people bantering about it.

Yeah, really. It's not so much about porn threads missing, we can get them elsewhere, it's just about Watmm being less and less fun, and so far from what it used to be.

Pretty much the only thing I really believe in all of this, and what may actually be a baad problem. Other than that I don't take this that seriously but I love the whole drama.

it upsets me when watmm is in such a volatile state like this. i come here everyday to escape the craziness at work or whatever but whenever these threads come up about how it is being run or banning people or what have you, i like to try and go away for a few days until things settle down.

so i'm looking forward to this thread turning into a rolling lol so we can go back to normal. :trashbear:

While I certainly enjoyed the T&A threads I agree we don't really need them here.

Franklin gets it - I'm not passing judgement on whether porn is right or wrong, just saying that on WATMM, there's no need for it.

I can completely understand this.

I'm trying to be completely constructive here; I come on WATMM at work and I prefer to stick to the music threads because I know it will be more straightforward discussion, less silly pictures and potentially NSFW content. I like to look at the off topic stuff but not at work. A lot of the time I am here largely as an electronic music fan, that I presume is the original focus of WATMM.

I just want to say that in doing this I find the featured artists subforums completely restrictive and damaging to me coming here to discuss music. That's literally what I want to use this site for and I can't get around it. I just want to find out about music and discuss it a bit; if I didn't know there was a new Wagon Christ album out I don't know why I would want to go in the Vibert subforum as I wouldn't expect anything of interest. Given that I do know there is a new Wagon Christ album, I have no need to go in there because I already know about it, and there is probably a 20 page long thread and the only people posting are people who love it by default, why else would they be in that forum? I also am pretty sure that the vast majority of active members in the music discussion forum are all active in general banter, and I think they go hand in hand.

Basically, I think you can improve the music aspect of the site quite easily, and that having a general banter section does no harm to that goal.

What about the new Wagon Christ fans that DON'T know there's a new release? Or want to find out more about this amazing artist they've just discovered? Where do you suggest they go to easily find that info? Again, the whole point of having specific Artist subforums is to centralize that information for easy access, and to keep discussions filtered so if you have no interest in Wagon Christ, you need not sift through posts about him if you're more interested in discussing something/someone else.

I'm unclear as to what the overarching goal of WATMM is supposed to be? I understand the stated purpose of bringing it back to music but to me, the whole thing is loaded with latent intent that makes me very reserved concerning what topics I should start or how I should reply in existing threads.

At this moment, there are at least 2 threads that seem to violate the new clause: "million pigs buried alive" and "cannabis acquittal" and that's just in 1 or 2 cycles of GenBan. Shutting down threads really is at an all-time high and I don't care if they were stupid or not. It keeps begging the question, "if not this WATMM, then what WATMM"?

I get the whole Bobby Brown of site administrators and mods when they want to flex their prerogative and the whole "here's the door" if you try to invoke debate. I can even understand the oligarchical glee of closing threads and banning. But, seriously, back to the first sentence: why not just kill WATMM with fire?

I'm frankly surprised that someone intelligent as you cannot read the rules and determine that this only affects pornography and gore, and not general topics (while disturbing, are legitimate sources of discussion). There's been no increase (by me or the mods) in the closing of threads. Crap threads get closed, as is the norm here.

perhaps joyrex could consider keeping threads in nonsense/crap forum open instead of closing them. that way it could become its own forum.

I used to read Totse and that's how they handled it. I don't know if that would cause any server/whatever problems, just a suggestion that has no effect on me either way.

No - this has been suggested many times before, and the main reason I DON'T do this is it creates a playground for idiots that frankly doesn't need to be here.

yeah one picture of an unknown german military leader, whether it "pushed him over the edge" or not, seems a bit silly and banal for a banning. I hope it's only temporary. He was funny and intelligent and creative.

As mentioned previously, he was warned many times for his racist remarks - this was just a convenient excuse to finally get rid of him before the inevitable happened.

I'm serious, you know how many torrent sites get busted every year? They go after forums, too.

c'mon, in that case, they would send you a cease and desist, and you would take down the image, or, if need be, the entire thread. But that doesn't seem to be what prompted the latest decision?

And you know for a fact that something like this (or a related incident) wasn't part of the impetus for this change?

I'm new here, but I think it's a good idea to disallow pr0n on these forums, because eventually if Joyrex wanted to get Google Ad's on the site, I'm pretty sure Google only allows their ad's to be published on sites with no adult content. Bringing in that revenue would allow the site to really grow and hopefully bring back the sweet front page that I remember from back in the day. A win-win.

Exactly. Part of this too has to do with some potential plans on monetizing the site, and I want to make sure that if the site becomes ad-supported in any way (frankly this is looking like the only way we'll be able to realistically afford the additional server space and hardware required to bring back the downloads and other plans I have), I want to make sure that the unneeded content doesn't preclude that, or worse, the kind of advertising here leans in that direction DUE to the content on the site.

It's interesting how every once in a while joyrex gets the feeling that this site is something more than the random community that has formed around it and does something to reinforce the sentiment.

I don't mind losing those threads that much, but I don't like that the reasoning behind it is pretty much BS. I don't mind if Jr actually wants to give the site a serious air and purpose, but I don't like that it never goes beyond a statement of purpose while (maybe) hurting the community a lil bit each time. overall, it's just a forum, joyrex can do whatever he sees fit. who cares? if the place ends up being destroyed im sure we'll all find a replacement.

i agree w what Gordo says about Joyrex being all talk an no action. we've been hearing for years about stuff like added functionality, t-shirts etc. apart from bans and thread closing i don't see much result.

More than just that - if some of the revenue figures I've been suggested pan out, there's a hell of a lot more that we can do, like hire programmers to flesh out and finish the site (since I obviously don't have the time), etc. The possibilities are almost endless.

The Featured Artists Subforums don't seem to cater for people who are new fans, it is really only people who know most everything they need to know and are just eking out the last drops of information or music, or discussing the same old tracks. The new fans' needs are covered by Discogs or a basic wikipedia biography, any other information is probably in the subforum but buried as much as it would be in a general music forum (i.e which album to start with type of questions). I feel like if all the music was discussed together then it allows cross-polination for everyone, my interests in Aphex might be reignited by seeing it discussed, or hardcore strictly Warp-in-the-90s old balls members might be swayed round to enjoying the new Britney Spears material as is being discussed in the general music discussion forum.

I know this has come up before and I can't remember what the problem was but it might have been a technical reason, but tagging posts still sounds like a terrific idea that would bring these two angles into alignment.

Anyway I know these threads always turn into a 20 page shitstorm aimed right up your arse so I do appreciate you responding, just trying to help and all
