I haven't been able to follow music this year in the way that I have in previous years (just time commitments), but that's a resolution for the next year; keep up with music. Anyways, this is my list from what comes to mind and it includes a couple of EP's I really enjoyed. In no particular order:

  • Toro Y Moi - Freaking Out EP
  • Neon Indian - Era Extrana
  • Tycho - Dive
  • Lone - Echolocations EP
  • M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
  • Bibio - Mind Bokeh
  • Mint Julep - Save Your Season
  • Glider - The Sight Below

My favourite album out of that list is definitely Neon Indian's effort - nothing else I've heard all year came close to it, and there's not a single song on the album that I dislike.

I know this is gauche but id like to personally invite everybody which was kinda semi-repulsed by Glass Swords to filestube Cex's TINY CREATURE I feel like it sorta represents an alternate dimension continuation of the Warp aesthetic that recoils from the corny upbeat ultraritenow teenybopper vibe & tries to do a more post-imperialist take on idm

the ALL TIME BEST album of 2011 is DEFINATELY Música para MAXIMUM MISCHIEF by Viaje Sónico cuz its just so good psych out tunes PLUS expecially important now MAXIMUM MISCHIEF was BANNED (WTF) and this is like the #1 protest album suddenly of 2011 to making it the DOUBLE WAMMY of BEST MUSIC and SOCIALLY IMPORTANT MUSIC\

gang gang dances 'eye contact' was pretty amazing.

particularly great track-

the live stuff im hearing is even better than the album tho.

I absolutely love GGD and Eye Contact was great, but I was so disappointed in the fact that the majority of the album was old. Pretty much all of it has been floating around and performed since at least 2008. I was hoping for totally new music, but instead got a refined version of something that I already had in an old podcast from years ago. Mindkilla was the best track, which was disappointing because it was the single and I'd banged that track so many times that it was old by the time the record was actually released.

So, here's my list:

Best Albums of 2011

1. Shabazz Palaces - Black Up

2. SBTRKT - SBTRKT

3. Gang Gang Dance - Eye Contact

4. Cold Cave - Cherish the Light Years
