I was terribly dissapointed compared to his previous work. will revisit maybe I was really biased.

Listened to it twice, thought it was okay. Got the feeling it was an album that needed quite a few plays before hitting home.

All his previous stuff seemed more colorful, playful, and spontaneously inventive whereas this album is more hunched over IDM with a furrowed brow. I know I should listen more.

Yeah, what I gathered from his interviews, his alter-ego is "Xen", who's actually a woman, so I kind of understand why he's mixing genders when performing - you know, to get into a certain headspace.
