Redpoint and Jamiroquai
by Guest Doc at the Radar Station- 8 replies

Ok I was researching some info about Jay Kay, the singer from Jamiroquai, because I was really bored. Really really bored. Anyways, it turns out the effort was worth it because I found out from reading various forums that he has a small house/beach hut at Redpoint, which he uses occaisionally to write new songs. This goes further to confirm my suspicions that he is a BoC fan, I can really see him being down with all that shit. So now you know.

So I'm half asleep with my radio on the loveliest of alternative stations when the newest Incubus song comes on... Call me crazy, but in this stage of lucidity I thought I was listening to Amo Bishop Roden...so I download the Incubus song...and they have the same chord progression. Of course, this is all pretty useless. but then again, so is most of this subforum...just thought I'd share anyhow. 03_Dig.mp3

bocs scales
by Guest môak- 23 replies

i've noticed (with synths) that boc seems to get 'their' sound from loads of detailed detuning, i suspect fine tuning and semitones are wholy important not only to the melody but also the 'sound dynamics'. such as slow this bird down, i suspect that 7 is a number that is played around with alot, as in oscillators have mathimatical differences and that 7 may be used to detune an osc or more to create this tracks 'hollow' sound.

There was an artist who posted a link to a nifty website(with, I believe, 2 downloadable tracks on it) that had an interesting animation of a tree growing on it. It's probably been a couple of years by now, but I was wondering if anyone has the tracks or for that matter even remembers what I'm talking about. After the site link was posted, I remember there was quite a bit of negativity directed towards the artist responsible for the site and the track(s). Sorry for the vagueness of the post.

I'm reading this book for the first time and I'm struck by the similarities to the whole Redmoon culture the Sandissons built up around them with their friends in Scotland. Some of the discussions of how everything was wired up for sound, with different parts of the woods/bus being miked and routed to other parts of the woods, movies being constantly made and projected - all of it sounds like vintage BOC. There's a scene that really struck me with one of the guys on the bus having a bad trip and listening to headphones, with one stereo channel picking up the crackling of a campfire outside and the other picking up the metallic sounds of someone playing piano in a ho…

Breaks?

Do Boc use drum breaks, or do they just play the drums and make it sound scratchy? If they do use breaks, which ones?

i was thinking what sets boc apart from their nearest counterparts, and i reckon its their melodies - anyone recognise any special modes or scales that are common to their songs? i've heard some whole-tone / hexachord melodies that sound similar but i'm not sure.

I just found this on Gnutella. ID3 tags say it's from an "Unreleased Demo"... I just wanted to know if this is Finity off of AFOT or OTV1, or if it's a fake. Kthxbai. Boards_of_Canada___Unreleased_Demo___06._Finity.mp3

BoC's next album
by Guest Doc at the Radar Station- 8 replies
- 1.9k views
I had a thought today about the possible "next step" for BoC, their next album, and their overall sound/direction. It is getting increasingly difficult to use samples without the proper clearance. Such as clips from TV, film, and speech. Proper clearance takes a lot of money and effort, so will BoC abandon this in future do you reckon? For example, we all know there are many samples used in Music Has The Right... and Geogaddi, but significantly less have been used in TCH. So I'm thinking this may have to be a continuing trend for BoC, and it's possible that this will cause them to compromise their artistic vision which I feel is very sad. There very well may be…
