"Beck says in 2007":I feel like most of us are between 10 and 15 years behind Aphex Twin and Bjork, as far as getting out on the limb of the tree of where music can go.""

why does everyone rip it out of beck, just coz hes not electronic music or electronic, he's a good artist..

i dont know, maybe for the same reason people rip on Vanilla ice Eminem or Limp Bizkit?

beck is undeservedly arrogant. he's not innovative and he's certainly not one of the best electronic musicians.

hes a talented musician, with a great sense of humor. check out stereopathetic soulmanure...i think alot of this board would get a kick out of it...just plain weird but hilarious pre-Mellow Gold stuff.

i wasnt making a comparison to their trendiness level, just how untalented and embarrassingly white-boy rap, and how heavily they rely on their producers for their sound (Vanilla ice Eminem or Limp Bizkit, Beck, Snow, MC9000 ft jesus)

everyone loves beck --> beck loves aphex twin --> everyone loves aphex twin --> aphex twin = electronic music --> everyone loves electronic music --> watmm = electronic music (or electronic music = watmm) GET THE FUCKING POINT? we dont want that to happen

I really like Bjork and Aphex and to a lesser degree Beck, and I while the comparison between Bjork and Aphex is a little strange in that context, Bjork's sound is very unique, Im not sure if I'd say its 15 years ahead, but not because its not progressive, just because I don't really see music ever going that way. The reason I like Bjork is because of the way she uses her voice to do so much more than most traditional vocals, and because she has the inspiration (concept of Medulla for example), as well as the producers to make superb, unique albums, that will probably not be replicated.

I can however see popular music in the future being very influenced by music that artists like aphex are doing at the moment.

beck is a guitar man. he likes our bleepy crap well enough, but his specialty is guitars. he is open-minded enough to listen bjork and aphex, even form opinions about them (such as, they are good, they belong in the same category, etc., though the former may have been helped along by the famous afx/bjork guest appearance story). for this he should be commended, not corrected for something that goes with local classification culture.

honestly it's better than if he was all, "yeah man, i play with, uh... 304's... all the time... i'm an expert. those aphex twins are killer!!"

finally, i can't believe no one noticed that he didn't actually put them in the same category.

he said "I feel like most of us are between 10 and 15 years behind Aphex Twin and Bjork, as far as getting out on the limb of the tree of where music can go."

he may as well have said "Aphex Twin and my friend charley that's been playing chello for 37 years"

no, they were just mentioned in the same sentence.

heaven fuckin' forbid.

hmm, i dunno. i would never compare aphex with any other artist in the world, whether its on sound design/genre/style etc. aphex is quite unique, i would never put him in a category with any other artist at all personally
