Hello...not exactly new news, but in case you hadn't heard about it, Plaid did a remix of one of my tunes for the now complete Signals record club on Uncharted Audio. Scroll down on this page...

http://www.unchartedaudio.com/releases/signals/ ...for a link to a brief snippet.

Norman Records are selling the whole lot...

Anyway, thought some people on here might be interested. Well, cheerio!

Purchased the entire subscription some weeks back just for this.

I'll admit I don't have a turntable and am very much a digital enthusiast. I don't suppose there's any chance this track might appear somewhere as ones and zeroes, so people like myself can enjoy it? Maybe Beatport or somesuch - perhaps along with a few other, untouched, originals?

Sadly, as far as I'm aware there are no plans to do digital, no. You never know, though, Uncharted Audio might be persuaded to give mp3s to people who've bought it...or sell some or all of the tunes on bleep.com or something, yeah. But I'd be surprised - I think Russ at Uncharted wanted the whole Signals series to be as secretive and exclusive as possible.

Thanks for listening, MD! And for the kind words. How do you mean, light arranged? As in, there's not much variety in terms of the arrangement? I know Ed had some problems with his hard drive dying while he was halfway through the remix, so maybe that has something to do with that...

Beautiful remix and great introduction to a new producer for me!

I think as ever its classic plaid, beautifully arranged with a killer opening synth sound! nice and dark and good to hear them dropping a 4/4 beat

Just to confirm there are no plans to do a digital release of the Signals series. The idea was not to make it secretive or to exclude anyone from hearing it, it's simply that as a label we love vinyl, and in order to get some of the artists on board who we managed to persuade, one of the provisos was that their tracks would appear on a run of 200 7" singles, and that would be it, all nice and tidy.

i do apologise to the digital enthusiasts but i'm sure you'll agree it's better that these tracks are out in some form than not made at all... my recommendation is to buy a turntable, or even two. they're really good you know!

So we bowed to the inevitable public pressure and have made some of these tracks available as a digital release (note that there are 5 tracks on the digital, but 13 on the vinyl). Since it's going to be appearing on John Tejada's Fabric44 mix in the new year, we opted to include Plaid's remix of LJ Kruzer. Here's the details in full:

Various Artists - "Signals (Digital Selection)"

UNCH018

Release Date: 08/12/2008

Format: Wav/320kbps mp3/192kbps mp3

Available now from Junodownload and from other digital providers over the next few weeks

http://www.junodownload.com/ppps/products/1375798-02.htm

1/ On/off - One Day, Machines (Digitonal Remix)

2/ Cursor Miner - William Tell Routine

3/ Cyan341 - Heptagrammic

4/ Line - How I Saved the World Single-handed

5/ LJ Kruzer - Huba (Plaid's 15 Years Lost remix)

Uncharted Audio bow to public demand and make available a selection of the recent Signals 7" series in a digital format for the first time.

There are still a few sets of the vinyl available direct from the label:

Well, as ideologically disappointing as this turn of events might be to the artists involved, as well as the label that's releasing the material, it is still preferable to reach a wider audience. I know I'll be heading off to nab these right after I hit "Add Reply".

While I do agree that vinyl sounds nice, it doesn't actually sound "good", per se. I can understand the purists' viewpoint, but I cannot particularly identify with it. I just enjoy the practicality and objectivity of digital too much, particularly when we're dealing with creations that are almost entirely digital in their inception. Perhaps analogue warmth is required to cement the final product once it's done, and kill that harshness, but I feel the same can be accomplished in a digital environment with decent mastering and playback conditions... Digital is getting quite close to analog these days, for a fraction of the price and trouble. Maybe if the reference standard for digital weren't 192kbps MP3, people might enjoy it more. MP3 depresses me no end.

Ehh... I ramble on. Cheers on this decision is all I can say. And, hey - I've now purchased this twice. Happens a lot lately, it seems.

So, will we get to hear your unaltered version at any time? As I don't actually own a turntable, I've yet to listen to the vinyl. Apologies.
