Just a few that might suit TH quite well, off the top of my head:

- The Andromeda Strain (1971)

- The Omega Man (1971)

- THX 1138 (1971)

- Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)

- Capricorn One (1977)

- The Last Wave (1977)

- Dawn of the Dead (1978)

- Mad Max (1979)

- Day of the Dead (1985)

- The Quiet Earth (1985)

- Prince of Darkness (1987)

Any other worthy contenders I've missed?

watched prince of darkness last night! ace soundtrack, ace movie, proper creepy premise, also watched miracle mile the other day with the guy who lived in a bubble in northern exposurePRINCE+OF+DARKNESS+%285%29.jpg

Prince of Darkness is immense, It literally sweats a huge sense of dread/evil out of the screen. I really liked the radio signals from the future thing, one of those rare occasions where the science is still a bit silly, but makes for an interesting thought-provoking concept.

I'd like to see some stuff from the composer they cited in the Guardian interview.

"There are quite a few influences on this record. Carpenter is kind of an easy reference point for most people though I'd say the main ones would be Fabio Frizzi, John Harrison and Mark Isham. We're very much into grim 70s and 80s movie soundtracks so there are maybe nods to composers such as Stefano Mainetti, Riz Ortolani, Paul Giovanni, Wendy Carlos, even Michael Nyman."

The Hitcher

Some Fulci [The Beyond, City of the Living Dead]

second - "the Hitcher" it's like practically an extended version of the reach for dead video. Good list and thread suggestion though. I'm going check those out.

2001 seems fitting to me, for some reason. Especially the ending.

Makes perfect sense.
