michael moore's morning after to do list

https://www.good.is/articles/moore-five-point-plan

Morning After To-Do List:

1. Take over the Democratic Party and return it to the people. They have failed us miserably.

2. Fire all pundits, predictors, pollsters and anyone else in the media who had a narrative they wouldn't let go of and refused to listen to or acknowledge what was really going on. Those same bloviators will now tell us we must "heal the divide" and "come together." They will pull more hooey like that out of their ass in the days to come. Turn them off.

3. Any Democratic member of Congress who didn't wake up this morning ready to fight, resist and obstruct in the way Republicans did against President Obama every day for eight full years must step out of the way and let those of us who know the score lead the way in stopping the meanness and the madness that's about to begin.

4. Everyone must stop saying they are "stunned" and "shocked". What you mean to say is that you were in a bubble and weren't paying attention to your fellow Americans and their despair. YEARS of being neglected by both parties, the anger and the need for revenge against the system only grew. Along came a TV star they liked whose plan was to destroy both parties and tell them all "You're fired!" Trump's victory is no surprise. He was never a joke. Treating him as one only strengthened him. He is both a creature and a creation of the media and the media will never own that.

5. You must say this sentence to everyone you meet today: "HILLARY CLINTON WON THE POPULAR VOTE!" The MAJORITY of our fellow Americans preferred Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Period. Fact. If you woke up this morning thinking you live in an effed-up country, you don't. The majority of your fellow Americans wanted Hillary, not Trump. The only reason he's president is because of an arcane, insane 18th-century idea called the Electoral College. Until we change that, we'll continue to have presidents we didn't elect and didn't want. You live in a country where a majority of its citizens have said they believe there's climate change, they believe women should be paid the same as men, they want a debt-free college education, they don't want us invading countries, they want a raise in the minimum wage and they want a single-payer true universal health care system. None of that has changed. We live in a country where the majority agree with the "liberal" position. We just lack the liberal leadership to make that happen (see: #1 above).

Let's try to get this all done by noon today.
-- Michael Moore

about 30% of that makes any sense. lol @ #5 in particular, that's just going to make "Hillary won the popular vote!" the new "jet fuel can't melt steel beams".

other presidents won the election w/o winning the popular vote. it's nothing new.. just a thing to console someone and as he says a way to reassure people that the whole country hasn't gone "to the darkside" or whatever.

well, it'll provide a false sense of reassurance if anything and make no practical difference cos you guys have a problem. and it goes beyond picking this candidate or that candidate.

What if Trump is a genius.  What if he said a whole bunch of bullshit to appeal to bullshit voters, just to get his foot in the door.  And then when he gets into office, he starts wearing some ninja costume late at night and offing corrupt officials in every branch of government.

He'd walked back the Muslim ban long before today. He's been touting the 'heavy heavy vetting' (whatever the fuck that means) for months.

It means he's going to do all the shit we are already doing, but repackage it to seem like he's doing it better.

Why appeal to bullshit voters when you can just appeal to everyone and get elected without ruining the reputation of the country, and stirring up the darkest elements of our population.

I was there, by the time the shooting happened downtown the protest march was easily 12-14 blocks away. It happened out front of the sketchiest 7-Eleven in downtown on one of the most drug-trafficked street corners of the city. Almost guaranteed it's unrelated.

People are being openly nationalistic, racist, inflammatory, etc etc etc. and they think they have the backing of the government/establishment/status quo and this is the scariest thing about this. Trump is now responsible for fixing all of this and reaffirming that human decency is important.

People actually think that you can stop the fucking world from all becoming one big melting pot by being nationalistic. fucking christ.

The people being stupid and protesting all need to go home, because they are making us look bad.

Our country might have regressed 20 years in the span of 1 election cycle.

because going to conventions and rallies, spitting out whatever garbage seems relevant or appropiate at time, playing to people's emotions and fears, telling the american voting masses at large what they want to hear .. it probably seemed like a good idea. and to be pretty fucking fair here, trump won with just that bullshit zero content / all garbage tactic.

or did hillary clinton simply lose because no one at large wanted to vote clinton.

what a garbage election. no one won. trump just lost less than clinton.

I think clinton lost more than trump won if you're going to characterize it that way. I'm very upset with the DNC, and I hope the lawsuit fucks up the people involved in this mess. But it's also the media's fault. The way they operate is so fucking unethical and stupid. It's all a big cluster fuck of shit.

I understand what happened in a lot of ways. People are taking in ridiculous fucking sources of opinion and information. My parents are wonderful decent people but they just do not understand the bigger picture, etc., and this is all so fucked now.

what a garbage election.

It does sting that twice in my lifetime, the Democrat candidate won the popular vote, but lost the election.  That shouldn't happen.

This has been coming up in conversations I've had today. i'm not sure that destroying the electoral college is the answer, but the entire process certainly needs to be reevaluated and most likely reformed. Good luck on getting any goddamned thing that big done in this country though, especially now.

The ideal for the electoral college would be a bit different than how it is now. Let's use Texas as an example:

Instead of having 11 electors let's have 254 - one elector representing each county. If Dallas county turns blue then the elector must vote blue and so on for other counties. A federal law should be put into place where faithless electors who don't represent the will of the people of the county, they lose their powers and face a prison sentence.

This system would assure that counties and cites with higher populations don't always determine the election (even without the current electoral college LA and New York City would be choosing the president every year) while also respecting the true will of the people.

It'll never happen though
