There are an awful lot of tracks which don't fit any album style/likeness. or even each other. that's probably partly why they've been sitting in the vaults.

Plus even the albums have extreme variations on them, e.g. Classics has Analogue Bubblebath 1 on it, SOSW has a full beatless ambient tack.

I think its probably an idea to do like multiple album sized compilations titled 'Unreleased Trax 9X-9X', and then make tracklists that flow out of that stuff.

maybe this information will be useful for some ocr people

everything here is written by wonderful ZoeB!

I'm probably wrong, but this is my best guess at the tape split points, more or less. The times shown are the amount of time that passed between track uploads. Deleted tracks are excluded.

yeah this is genius - looking at the gaps between uploads and inferring that RDJ was digitising old tapes

There are huge crossovers between SAW85-92, Analogue Bubblebath, Classics and even Polygon Window and Caustic Window so it's difficult to separate these specifically, an 'early years' compilation would suit these well - or possibly a ravey-hardcore one and an ambienty one.

The ICBYD era pieces are much more clearly marked so I'll probably be separating those into an individual folder. The number of later pieces is small so a HAB/RDJ combination would probably work.

while it's admirably creepy, it doesn't really work as a concept as there vast changes in years/styles on the what you're seeing as individual tapes and things like there being three tracks 7s on "old tape #6"

Personally, I'm of the opposite opinion, I think zoe's old tapes order makes for the most logical concept for categorization... it's a direct and tangible link to the soundcloud 'event' itself.

I think that I'll end up organizing it with the Old Tapes method as suggested, then make playlists as a I see fit. I didn't care for all the tracks, and so organizing a couple playlists with my favorites seems like the best idea to me.

Love the obsession over this but for the time being, I simply have them all in a folder that's automatically alphabetized. Didn't remove track numbers. I'm finding the most joy in just getting lost in the shifting moods of Planet AFX.

Personally I kept everything in the same folder, tagged them with Artist "Aphex Twin" From the album "user48736353001" and assigned my favorite cover from the artwork thread.

I really don't think there's any point trying to organize the tracks like this.

Reason - there will be a more official release of these tracks. Probably only digital as there's so many. Some will be mastered, some not, but all will be downloadable in FLAC/320mp3 or whatever. He will group the tracks as he intended for them to be heard

Just gotta wait a bit

Yep. This is very good, although I'd love to figure the artist names.

I currently have a SAW playlist.

I think I'll do a HAB/RDJ one shortly.

Maybe a JOYREX list for the harsher CW style tracks and UNHEARD CLASSICS for the old, old stuff.

Might need to split that one a bit further.

I plan to enjoy the chaos. All filed as RDJ, title 'user48736353001', best played in whichever order you prefer. In my case, on shuffle whilst trying to entertain a three month old Aphex initiate.

It seems to me his whole career has been a stream of conscious thing, with bits and pieces pulled togeter and released in a fairly fragmentary way, and that idea fits this stuff. Trying to unpick it all could drive a man to drink.

Yeah, I think this seems to be the best option. Maybe I'll organise groups of tracks into discs to make it look a little neater in my iTunes library.

Also, is everyone keeping or ditching the track numbers?

I think he might do that for some of them, but not all of them. Because its too many - that was his problem in the first place - too many tracks to organise - thats why he just posted them en-masse.

I'm choosing to remove the track numbers personally. I don't want people to keep adding on the track numbers when mentioning the tracks in the future, seems quite pointless.

Surely the track numbers at the start mean some of these were originally grouped into possible releases? We have pretty much all of AB6 it appears.

But yeah am just going for one big playlist in alphabetical with track numbers (mainly cause I cant be arsed to take them out!) It flows pretty well like that anyway and can just dip in an out to my heart’s content! Might make playlists of favs and stuff at some point but for now just enjoying the Aphex madness!

there is no way I'll keep that big foler as is - it's very uncomfortable to search thru all playlist on phone, it's gigantic

probably will make "favorite tracks" folder, separate folder for HAB/RDJ era, Acid stuff, Ambient stuff, make AB6 folder, "already released" folder, the rest brobably will go to "early ephix" folder (88-93), but i havent started organizig yet, everything can change depending on how many tracks are there from every era.
