2015 Jams of the Year

Hail Sagan

Recommended Posts

Two guys mainly have been providing the jams this year, here's an example from one of them who's opened up the floodgates:

And here's the other, who's also been churning out everything from ambient synth albums to techno bangers to goofy drum machine remixes of old tunes, starting up his own label again,... and it's all fucking tremendous.

The latter also introduced me to a bunch of other artists through his many podcasts e.g.

As a matter of fact here's 90 minutes of jams that paint a nice picture of what 2015 sounds like in my head:

The Kate Bush edit one hour into that mix just about sums it up really.

oh damn that Joda Clément thing is sounding pretty sweet, gonna have to look into that further. And hell yeah Pole, I've chalked up a lot of listens on that album already.

I could make a top 100 entirely of Richard d James soundcloud tracks, so that whole set has been jams of the year (decade?) for me

Yeah. I decided not to include those songs since they're older. Even though they're new to me. #1 musical event of the year, and likely decade, is the soundcloud experience imo.

Fully agree with Sagan's selection. Fair call not including Soundcloud tracks, but I feel like some of them just have to be mentioned in this thread.

Of course, it's nearly impossible to make a selection, but here's 3 that I keep coming back to anyway:

Also, might not qualify as 2015 but heck, too good:

Finally, to avoid this being an Aphex only post:

been digging all that i come across on 100% silk in general, just singles and comps tho - ill give this a listen next

He has his album 'Visions' and the 'Visitors' tape both on that label I think. The album is masterfully produced house but I like the tape even better, it's essentially leftover tracks that didn't quite fit the album I guess, with more variety in genre and a raw edge to them. 'Knowing You' is my real fave track on there but I couldn't find a streaming version on the web right away.

it's really well-made ambient/sound art, well-enveloping, really puts me at ease. a lot of subtle details going on.

it's a tape cassette release, but the label uses chrome/cobalt (type ii) bias tapes, so it sounds pretty decent. kind of a hassle to flip the tape over, as it's only thirty minutes (15 min. per side). of course, w/Bandcamp you get a digital version as well
