Now That Trump's President... (only a couple of months more)

Yeah, but similar arguments were advanced in 2015 for the claim that he couldn't get elected. "They're incompetent, therefore they'll fail." It's not that I think we're overlooking any great genius here--there isn't any--but those commentators who dismissed his candidacy as a joke weren't counting on how effective it is to tap into provincialism, scapegoating, and good ol' fashioned racism in America. And his popular vote actually increased this time around, right? He knows how to milk those die-hard followers, we have to give him at least that much. I'm with Jules on this: it's pretty scary shit.

i think to some degree it's apples and oranges. trumps administration has been effective at wrecking shit. hollowing out the state department and EPA.. shit like that. but in other ways they've been terribly incompetent and ineffective. his campaign had a few key things. his appeal as the loud mouth getting lot's of wall to wall news coverage because "OMG what's he gonna say next" and people watching a car crash/freakshow and laughing... then he had brad parscale who dialed in the on line stuff w/facebook and took advantage of all that had to offer. all the super targeting of people to turn them on or turn them off. get them to vote or get them to stay home.

that translating to a network is a different thing. the minute someone stands up to trump about anything.. he'll fire the person. he'll have yes men all around him and his bad decisions will tank the network because he's fucking stupid.

if he makes some kind of deal to license his name to an existing network that gives him a show on a channel that has his name on it.. then that's another story completely... but if he wants to run the show.. i don't know.. it might be a big splash then 6 or 12 months of chaos and implosion.

A woman who claims to be Ivanka Trump's former 'best friend' says one of her earliest memories of her is her blaming a fart on someone else.

On Tuesday, she wrote: 'One of the earliest memories I have of Ivanka from before we were friends is when she blamed a fart on a classmate.'

^ wow. she's an associate attorney, never tried a case before, and she's going to get a lifetime federal judge position? that's like promoting someone from intern to CEO... all because turtle and the senate R's want to piss off the dem's as much as possible. this shit is so embarrassing, watching so-called adults behave like this.

from another article about her:

Since 2019, she has been an associate at Jones Day, which has been dubbed Trump’s “favorite law firm” because of all the attorneys he’s hired from there into his administration.

what the actual fuck?

Is there any sort of legal process in the US where that can be challenged? That is ridiculous.

Is there a rage facepalm reaction icon? There should be. Sparking up the base by intentionally broadcasting things to upset people in the opposing "tribe" (I hate that language, but that seems to be the motivation here). It can't get much more blatant than this.

I've been thinking about this lately... the reason the right hates the perceived liberal elites' condescension is that deep down, they genuinely believe/understand they are inherently better (or more savvy) than them in some way(s). Trump is tacky as fuck, and part of the success of his brand is the accessibility of that tackiness. But behind that accessibility is a sadness at being perpetually left out.

I'm one tacky motherfucker myself. So I say, call out and disown the bigotry of course, but also embrace the sincerity and folksy outsider vibes of people who got on the Trump train because they felt left out. We're supposed to be inclusive, so walk the talk. Let the right wing be the circular firing squad of today (holy fuck, who would have thought), and welcome their huddled masses yearning to breathe free (literally - COVID ain't no joke).

this picture and other pics of his kids remind me of that movie w/jason schwartzman and bill murray.. when bill murray hates his kids or is disappointed by them... except the whole family is that way and they don't realize it
