I've been in a really good mood today. I'm usually super nice to people, even if I'm feeling sad, stressed, etc. I go out my way. It isn't that hard. I dont know if today is asshole day or what, but I've had several encounters with people who have responded to my pleasantness by being complete assholes. One guy, who I know, that ive worked with and am Facebook friend's with, I bumped into at work. I said "Hey man :)" to. He glared out of the corner of his eye as he hustled by and muttered ">:/ hey". I though that maybe he didn't recognize me, although that didn't seem possible. The next time I saw him, I said ":D hey man. How's it goin?". Same shit back. Thi…

Good evening watmm, I've been thinkin it's a good idea to start subscribing to feeds and whatnot for uni. You know, to keep up with what's been published in journals. There'd also be the advantage of having all music/tech news in the one spot I downloaded "Reeder" (seems good ) but I still don't think I've got the hang of how you subscribe because every time I try to subscribe I get a "this xml does not have content..." message or my reader can't find anything. Two questions: 1. How do I subscribe to actual feeds without just searching keywords and the like? 2. What feeds do you like and would recommend? I'm thinking music, technology an…

My first ever music question!
by Guest El_Chemso- 5 replies

I've been a member here since about 2003, but I didn't join to talk about music, I just liked the banter. However the time has come, I need genuine music advice with relation to a product video. In my real world alter-ego I have a product that is used in the woodworking industry. I'm just putting together a little demo video with hopefully a little bit of production value. My question is what sort of background music would you recommend and where does one obtain music that one isn't going to get sued for using. My aim for the type of music is something like the music (more soundtrack) heard in these videos: This ones quite too electro, maybe a lit…

In this thread we tie two movies together that could exist as sequels/prequels to one another. For instance, Captain Ron is a prequel to Escape From New York. After the family he travels with is murdered by pirates, Ron watches the world collapse and takes on a new, more jaded persona: Snake Plissken.

I need to create a costumized wordpress theme from scratch. Are you guys able to recommend me some tutorials. The site will be a basic one for a small music label. But it should not look like these ugly wordpress "blog" archetypes, the backend from wordpress will be much needed though. I'll appreciate any help!

Seriously, what the fuck? I was using the Image search to find a picture of someone squinting with their eyes, like they're trying to see something far away. So I search "squinting really hard". And, naturally, Google tries to correct me... I mean, are there really so many people searching for porn on the internet that this would happen? How the fuck could you see someone looking for "squinting", a perfectly valid word, and just assume it's a typo for this stuff? I've actually noticed this kinda thing happening for a while. So here's a thread for ridiculous "corrections" made by Google.

[youtubehd]paVLyvA5S1g[/youtubehd] "The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strat…

I've re-enabled CHATMM, and unlike the last time, this time it is limited to paying members only - since CHATMM costs 25.00 annually for the 20 concurrent member license, it's only fair those who are actively contributing to the forum get the privileged of using it. Anyone with Members Plus and higher memberships can use it.

Is there a finer tasting natural food on earth? I have a pineapple every day and with every bite I think to myself fucking hell these things are incredible. They have the texture of the juiciest, most succulent meat but the most amazing tangy sharp sweetness taste. They even look great. Who can deny the decorative charm of a pineapple in the kitchen. They look so crazy alien and taste so fucking insanely nice that I often wonder if they were left here by an alien race or time travelling humans from the future. And pineapple juice, come on!!. How can one thing be so multi fucking amazing. I want to live in a pineapple under the sea.

Nice Web Dev/Design Resources
by Guest Mirezzi- 8 replies

In the spirit of the "Nice Links" thread, I was looking to start a similar thread related to the many web design/developer WATMMites who frequent this site. Once upon a time, during the hey-day of HTML 4.0 / XHTML 1.1, I knew of many of these, but some are either defunct or woefully outdated now. A List Apart still seems like a nice resource. Personally, I'm looking for something a bit broader in style, something that encompasses the dev/design challenges brought by HTML5, JQuery/Ajax, Flash finally circling the drain, and more importantly, the major players in the 3rd party app/platform arena. For the latter, I'm thinking social media as well as Flickr, Instagram…

Even though I am a badass producer, I have never come to know the golden secrets of MIDI files and those really dry MIDI type of songs on sites like this. What software is used to create these? Are we talking about trackers? Because it seems like there is a very specific, limited software that is used to create ringtones and the like.

Had the sudden urge to start taking pictures. Been taking a lot on my shitty phone but of course they don't look that great. Looking for a standard digital camera that gets the job done. Been looking at this for a while and it looks fairly promising. Don't know much about specs, do you guys have any input? Much appreciated PowerShot ELPH 300 HS

I think that it is likely we are part of a simulated universe and not the real universe. If you look at the way technology continues to advance exponentially, the ability to simulate every single subatomic particle's movement in the known universe on your laptop is not completely unimaginable. In time, with quantum computing, I think "The Sims" becomes a completely accurate simulation of the universe indistinguishable from the actual waking universe. The assumption here is that if you can simulate all of the components of a human brain down to the most fundamental subatomic building block, you can simulate consciousness. You are assuming that this simulated being is …

OK, I've gotten enough tweaked on the new WATMM Classic theme to let you guys start using it, and hopefully provide feedback. There's still things to tweak, and if something doesn't seem right, be sure to hit F5 a few times to refresh the style sheets and clear the cached versions you might be still reading from. YES, you can always switch back to the other themes - the colours for this one was inspired by an old theme we had back when WATMM first launched, and was suggested by another forum member for something with less contrast (I think "get rid of the fucking white everywhere" was his exact words). Once I have this one completely converted and adjusted to our …

This has been bothering me lately. Whenever I visit a park from my childhood I notice that the Merry-Go-Rounds, Seesaws/Teeter-Totters and Giant Metal Spiral Slides have all been taken away. I guess all in the name of safety. I visit a shit-ton of parks, probably more than the average person, and out of all of the parks I've been to in the past several years, only one has a merry-go-round (happens to be in my hometown). This is such a tragedy in my opinion. Merry-go-rounds and the giant metal slides were always my favorite (I still enjoy them to this day) and I don't think I ever got hurt on one. Any of you notice the disappearance of fun equipment? What do ya'll …

1. Take a camera and go somewhere in or around your house. 2. Close your eyes and spin around in circles. 3. Stop. Take a picture. 4. Crop to square. And you're done! Name it something mundane. Bonus points for getting Jandek in your picture. Here's "Upstairs Curtain"

Caine's Arcade

Basically a 9-year-old kid in LA made a bunch of sweet (ok, they're kind of shit, but kind of amazing) arcade games out of cardboard boxes, some indie filmmaker put it online, and now he gets to go to college. Pretty awesome if you ask me. This ties in to my hope that news media will eventually be forced to give positive events the same coverage as shitty ones. http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-caines-arcade-video-cardboard-arcade-20120411,0,7270609.story http://www.cainesarcade.com
