  1. What do you mean? There's a number of different styles of music that are all from the south east of Africa, like from the border between Moçambique and South Africa and upwards, to, in this case, Tanzania that all have these crazy fast drumming patterns. Since Shangaan Electro enough of them have made it to the West that it's kind of a known thing that there's, well, hyper fast south eastern African music. ? There's large differences between them, of course, but one thing they all have in common is that they're, well, fast.
  2. There's a large gray area between "inspiration" and "theft". And this is definitely somewhere in that area. First track is almost exactly like one of those hyper fast south eastern African things, just with bland sounds. Second track, on the other hand, is pretty neat. Definitely more on the "inspired by" side of things.
  3. I wonder if there's a lesson in this somewhere ...
  4. Anyone into American Horror Story? I’m not usually a big horror fan, but from what I’ve seen from it so far (first two seasons, the haunted house one and the asylum one, and the start of the third season, the witches) is ace. It’s, of course, full of cliches and worn out tropes but there’s so many of them and the speed at which they get shoved down your throat is so great that in itself becomes the attraction. Also, the production value is really high. Plots are really good, too.
  5. You're overdoing it, mate. Next thing you'll tell us you post on an IDM forum on the internet.
  6. For me the worst is the shoes. I haven't worn leather dress shoes since March so when I had to wear some last week, my feet became a bloody mess. Another inconvenience is that my "lounge wear", which I normally only wore on evenings and on the weekends has by now starting to get worn out and I kind of don't want to spend money on replacing it (also: what *does* a grown man wear when he doesn't wear dress shirts? I'm starting to feel like I'm dressing up as a child when wearing the long sleeve t-shirts that were the staple of my casual wardrobe for the past thirty years).
  7. Found this looking for something to top that black dresses crap:
  8. You post a lot ... ta ta You post a lot ... ta ta You post a lot ... ta ta tada da tada da tada tada
  9. That is *fantastic* As is the movie he made before it, “Delicatessen”. The stuff that came after is pretty enjoyable, too. Like “Un long dimanche de fiançailles”, “Micmacs à tire-larigot” and of course that obscure little flick called “Amelie”. Basically if it says “Jeunet” on the cover I’ll watch it.
  10. Truly the most anodyne man alive.
  11. WATMM needs a “kill thread” feature. Also, haven’t had kebab in ages.
  12. It's really bad music, btw.
  13. Yeah, I remember reading somewhere that all turntables that cost less than that are essentially the same device, just with different branding. €150 or €50 (yes, they exist): no difference. And they all plough through your precious vinyl. @TubularCorporation makes an interesting point above, about direct drive vs belt drive, too. Oh, and finally: the greatest benefit of vinyl isn’t the vinyl itself, the turntable or the needle or anything, it’s that vinyl is harder to master for so it requires more care and attention than simply slamming everything through a limiter. And you don’t even need a super good sound system to hear that.
  14. Why do you want a direct drive? I was always taught that direct drive is for DJs as they start and stop quicker while for listening belt drive is better because there9s a belt between the motor and the needle. Is that no longer true?
  15. Even Goebbels had speeches that were more strongly rooted in reality than this
  16. Oh come on. I thought it was a good movie. Thought it captured very well how it feels to be at an event like this with your head full of drugs, including the inanity of a lot of it. In fact, this is kind of how I remember the 90s. Edit: page break, this is about Gaspar Noë's "Climax"
  17. This is definitely true. Although, on the other hand ... maybe it makes them sound a little more ... adult.
  18. Thanks for the link! And now for something completely different: Check out the entire concert. It's great. Smooth as silk but with lots of energy.
