I don't think that's cheesy. I get where you'd say that from the 80s guitar, but no i disagree. I probably like that better than the whole of the Blade Runner soundtrack honestly. I think it's great.

I will check out Zoolook, thanks. As for Asmus Tietchens, are Biotip and Litia the only good albums he did for Sky Records? I've been reluctant in checking much of his stuff out. I think I listened to Sinkende Schwimmer and it turned me off immediately.

 

Yes, Spat-Europa and In Die Nacht are both Sky LPs worth hearing. You should also check out the first two Hematic Sunsets LPs. As I mentioned in a recent reply on a separate thread, you picked just about the worst place to start with Tietchens. He's got some REALLY amazing stuff in his catalogue. Like you, I'm not really into the overly experimental music, but in his case I make exceptions.

 

I also noticed you've already heard (and loved) Oxygene, not to mention you're enthusiasm for Synthesist. I can't reinforce how much you'll enjoy some of the albums I suggested in my previous post. You will not be disappointed.

how are his most accomplished beat oriented synth records the worst place to start in his catalog? I really would like an explanation, I fucking love those albums

I should have been more specific--Sinkende Schwimmer is so far my least favorite Tietchens album. I LOVE the Sky albums--I've been going through his entire catalogue ever since. Have you heard Watching the Burning Bride (a collaboration with Terry Burrows), Nachstucke or any of the Hematic Sunsets LPs? Also, if you're a fan of industrial music his albums Stupor Mundi and Geboren, um zu dienen are pretty mind-blowing. Even his cassette tapes from the 80s, which actually contained old material recorded in the 70s, is filled with gripping output in the Schnitzler vein. They were re-released on vinyl as the 4K7 Box Set.

Prepare to be duly impressed by Richard Pinhas and Didier Bocquet. Both came out of France like Jarre but are much more aggressive. Pinhas was hugely influenced by Fripp & Eno and Tangerine Dream, but he manages to carve out his own sound too. Bocquet is a drummer turned synthesist who started in the Berlin School vein but by his last album covered a lot of ground.

Tim Blake - Blake`s New Jerusalem

 

I'm a fan of the electronics on New Jerusalem, but the vocals kill it for me. Have you heard Crystal Machine? Side two is pretty damn good and doesn't have vocals.

Nice to see someone mention Frenchman Tim Blake known also as Hi T Moonweed in the trip group from the 1970s GONG. Steve Hillage also being the guitarist in the group. Blakes first album Crystal Machine is brilliant and the side 2 opening track like bopdd mentions Synthese Intemporel, is more trippier and spacier than New Jerusalem.
