How do you know it's unreleased BoC?

seriously, if this whole BoC story showed us anything, is that it is really important to be rigorous and clear about information, even if it is so little as in this case.

yeah totally correct. How likely do you think it is unreleased when considering past releases?

i bet it's a remix of a boc remix lol

no but seriously, it could be unreleased, as it could be another already released track. maybe they are planing on releasing a remix project. i dunno.

that's why we should wait and stick to the little information we have

lol

i hate remix albums, even if they come with a new album.

it seems like a lazy way for the artist to think they have more material out when no one really gives a rat f about remixes. i can count the number of times i have listened to that odd nosdam remix on one hand and i can count the number of times i have enjoyed it with no hands.

There has never been a massive compilation of remixes of BoC stuff together in one release, a la Nine Inch Nails. Any remixes of BoC tracks have always been the odd track here and there on Warp compilations, a Beck album, etc. I don't think there has ever been a BoC track remixed and released anywhere near close to the release of the original track.

If there is gonna be an EP of BoC tracks remixed by other artists, that's a pretty big step in a direction that I thought BoC would never go.

Um, in a word: Laxir.

It really depends on who's doing the remixing, and what they're remixing. Some remixes I have loved:

Boards of Canada's remix of Mira Calix's "Sandsings"

Boards of Canada's remix of Beck's "Broken Drum"

Autechre's remix of Black Dog's "Tunnels ov Set"

Aphex Twin's remix of Kinesthesia's "Triachus"

µ-ziq's remix of Jega's "Geometry"

I can't argue with this. lol

I love a great remix specifically because it is a rare thing to cherish and enjoy. BoC actually excels in this aspect, at least when their the ones doing the remixing (this is something all of the WATMM featured artists are consistent at doing well). Lately I've been one to listen to a lot of good remixes in a row, especially within the future garage/future bass scene, but holy shit is it a different ballgame when it comes to genres like house. I'm always amused at how many versions of a Top40 dance song or breakout EDM single can warrant. Browsing through such releases on discogs is hilarious. In that sense, I know what Jules is saying.

Even remixes done with good intentions can become quite meaningless. For example, I was mostly let down and underwhelmed by the 10th and 20th WARP remixes. With "remix" contest stems floating around even good producers can crank out meh freebies to upload online. Flying Lotus did ones for Radiohead and Kanye that were absolutely forgettable. I find browsing through mediocre remixes on soundcloud and youtube overwhelming, but I guess that's where blogs and sites like RA FACT and XLR8R come in handy.

Hah, I heard a snippet of it on an Adult Swim bumper. Frantically looked it up on google, listened to the rest and became quite bored.

to clarify, i would love boc remixing stuff (as they have and most are killer) but i meant i don't care to hear a lesser known or loved (by me) artist remixing a better one.

for instance i would much rather hear boc remix black dog than vice versa. i have no interest in what black dog does to a boc track. at all. yet alone an ep/lp filled with people's interpretations of a boc track. that stuff is not for me.
