He also led arguably the best jazz band of all time (jones, coltrane, garland, chambers and miles). Now, for Bitches Brew, I do not think that its his best fusion work. Bitches brew was made right after in a silent way. It is hard to listen from beginning to end. I especially like pharaoh dance, sanctuary, miles run the voodoo down and spanish key. I however think its a masterpiece, but I rarely put i on. I much prefer On the Corner, Big Fun, ATTJJ and IASW. For a lot of fan, the best fusion work would be A Tribute to Jack Johnson. Yesternow is just fantastic. You should also check go ahead john, a song that was made in the same session, that you can find on the record Big Fun. :''"Go Ahead John" used to be my favorite, it's screams 'Jack Johnson' style with a small ensemble, heavily edited in post-production, and John McLaughlin, DeJohnette and Henderson absolutely killing it. I love how Teo panned the drums between the speakers to give it that special effect, very revolutionary back then i guess but it sounded incredible to me. a little like early breakbeat tracks or even drum n bass, Miles was so ahead of his time.' You should also hear from Big Fun, Lonely Fire. its ambiant and trippy. Guest Papalon Posted September 27, 2012 Share Posted September 27, 2012 My original introductions to Miles were Kind of Blue (of course), Love Songs, Porgy and Bess, Sketches of Spain, etc... I listened to the old stuff and was content for years without ever really delving into his 70s or 80s material. Man, was I surprised as shit when I bought my first copy of Bitches Brew and put it on. I absolutely loved it from the first listen! I grabbed the 4 disc set as soon as I found one for a decent price, then picked up In a Silent Way, Big Fun, and On the Corner all in a matter of weeks. I really liked them all for different reasons and find a strange satisfaction in being able to appreciate all of the different sounds he created. I even love his 80s fusion and smooth jazz sounding stuff like Amandla, Decoy, and Tutu. Dare I say Tutu may be my favorite album of his period. It would have to be an unknown actor so you wouldn't have any nagging associations. It's a hard enough role to play. Also, bear in mind you'd have to convincingly cast people to play basically all the jazz heavyweights and be able to show all of them playing the music in a live setting, getting their movements, mannerisms and instrumentation to look just right. Bird, the Charlie Parker movie starring Forest Whitaker shows just how difficult it is to do that. There's just no half-assing a Miles biopic.
