my friend told me about a buddhist temple in California somewhere that allows people to come in and live the way they live for week, then are asked if they wish to stay longer, and so on and so forth....at first i thought that sounded insane but im seriously considering giving it a try..if anything for adventure and a lifelong interest in monks of all shapes and colors. does anyone know anything about this? have you ever done it yourself? interesting experiences?

Dear WATMM, I would like to recruit your help in gathering a list of websites that are educational and not shit. So far I've got: http://academicearth.org/ Lots of great lectures on various topics - I just finished watching the Harvard 'Justice' series. Really well put-together, and Sandel pretty much looks like a bald eagle, so that's a bonus. http://www.learner.org/ Not sure where I found this one, but again, lots of well-done courses on a variety of subjects. http://www.khanacademy.org/ Free digital school! Collecting badges for doing math exercises is awesome, and I don't really care if I'm too old to think that's exciting. http://pla…

Video was uploaded just this morning, and now the boy is internet hero courtesy of /b/. Trending on twitter and all over Australian news. http://vimeo.com/21021823 http://encyclopediadramatica.com/The_Casey Summary: Fat kid has been bullied since he came to that school, some dicks were filming him getting started on. He snaps "The Beast got suspended for four days, according to his sister. However, it seems more likely he is taking a voluntary four day holiday in order to feed and slumber, so he can continue punishing those who wrong him. The Rat's parents are suing anyone and everyone, including The Beast and the school. However, The B…

So I've been pretty much blown away after playing Uncharted 2 over my friend's projector (Acer P1100) and I want to get one myself. He paid 350 bucks (Euro) for his. It's only got a resolution of 800x600 but it still looked great. There was one thing that bothered me though - the black areas weren't really black, they were dark-grey-ish. So scenes that had a lot of dark tones in them looked kind of flat and I could always see the edge of the projection even when there was an entirely "black" frame. But that was my only complaint. I though I should probably buy something with a resolution that is a little higher, considering the trends in filming and gaming. I came ac…

I like American McGee's Alice a lot, being one of my favorite all time games. Quake is awesome and weird as well. One additional important question: What's the most recent Final Fantasy for PC that's good? Not the live one, I know that's not very good. I may try one of these newer ones. My issue is most of these FPS games are all military based and the story is related. I don't like this. I know the idea of a FPS is guns weapons killing things, and hey that's military. But American McGee's Alice really destroyed all that and made it something I like. I've got a quad core 1 gig video card 4 gigs of ram, plenty of specs for any game pretty much. I'm just f…

Children Dying From Cancer

http://www.causes.com/causes/290741-children-dying-from-cancer Is this real? Almost 2 million people have acknowledged this 'cause', but the comments page reads like a troll. Perhaps it's just me, am I so devoid of decency that I can only see comedy in such earnest emotion? On a larger scale; are 'causes' (e.g. #Pray for Japan) the ultimate in arm-chair activism and charity?

Books on economics

Can someone recommend a book or books on global economics? Preferably as broad as possible, something that addresses the global economy as it is, different theories etc. Is there some sort of standard work? I've watched a few documentaries on quants and high frequency trading which piqued my interest and realized I know next to nothing about how global economics and the stock markets work. Oh, I've absolutely no interest in participating in the stock market or anything so there's no need for get rich books or anything.

So.. with the baseball season just around the corner, I decided that if i can watch 82+ Hockey games a season Ill try and rise up the challenge and become a baseball fan this year as well to have somthing to watch when the NHL season finishes in a few months. Funny enough ive been to a MLB game in 2001 in Arizona when the Diamondbacks played the Dodgers. it was a fantastic experience, but never really got too deep into it after, I just kept my attention 100% on the Penguins instead. Now not knowing much at all about Teams, Players, Statistics Ect; I want some help choosing the team I will route for in the 2011 season. only thing i want is for the Team i'll fol…
