Hi As you may or may not know, me and a friend have started our own little animation studio, and we need to invest in a good microphone! We need somethign quite versitile... primarily this will be for foley effects and dialogue... the dialogue recording ESPECIALLY has to sound good. But I will also be using it to ecord sounds for music. I don't want to spend more than $300-500 NZ ($500NZ = $356US, or £181, or 266 Euros). But if you can think of something that will be pretty much essential and costs more then by all means please tell me about that too. Also if anyone knows of any good portable recorders that are cheap that'd be cool too. Any advice and…

okay, as EKT music d00dz, we slowly amass a library of samples, melodies, patches, whatever. how do you keep it all organized? i am certain there is software out there to store+track samples, midi snippets, etc. but i've never looked into it. i figured i'd ask for opinions here, first. ideally: - i could track audio samples - i could copy + paste clips of midi in from cubase (write a melody, copy to clipboard, flip to app, paste). maybe cubase does this already! - i could track/store patches - sysex and cubase

After having so much fun with Deaf v.1, I thought it would be interesting if we could go deeper with the topic/art form by remixing some random-ass song. That way we truly dont know what the sound sounds like and just have a WAV, or in this case 320 bitrate mp3, file to tinker with. I havent heard this song. I accidentally bought this when a record store was closing down thinking it was something else. I'll share with you the only information i know about it and that's the album art: You can see why i thought this was something when it wasnt, haha :embrassed: Anywho, if you want to give it a try, go for it, if not, say "Fuck off Goffer, you jip-jap!"…

Ableton: Major help needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Guest The Bro- 5 replies

Okay everything was working fine with my Ableton gig set on my PC and then I transfered it to my laptop and its shifted markers within tracks so that they're out of sync. Exact same data transfered from one pc to another and yet its responding totally differently. It means manually readjusting all the markers in the track again to get them back in sync. I feel totally fucked. If anyone has any insight as to what the error or problem is you'll be my life buddy. There must be a solution to this problem because its not the first time. I reinstalled Ableton and deleted the data and trasfered it again but am getting the same problem. There must be a solution because I feel lik…

So yeah, as a continuation of that other thread I did I'm gonna be getting me a MIDI keyboard. I'm a bit strapped for cash but I've found two that have taken my fancy: 1) M-Audio Oxygen 49 (£79.99) http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...product_id/5743 2) CME UF5 (£114.99) http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...product_id/5743 Which one would you get. On the CME UF5, it looks like it has fewer programmable buttons, although the buttons that have some sort of function already on them (eg, Program, Transpose etc.) would I be able to assign them to any other function. So yeah, what'cho think. The M-Audio is kinda cheaper lookin…

How to start, make, and finish a proper track 1 2
by Guest stolemb- 25 replies
- 2.3k views
Thats it. I want, for fuck sake, and because its about time now, to make a full track that convinces myself. Normally I would start some shit, never knowing where im going, just do what goes throught my head. As a result, I'll get tired in an hour or so, so what I have is maybe 1 minute of track, sometimes something decent, sometimes crap, etc, but the idea is that I'll never see myself convinced to put the effort on that piece of audio, and enlarge it to fulltime track (4 min for example), and even less thinking about releasing something. Reasons of why this happens to me all the time... I don't really know, but surely has to do with stuffage avaliable. I mea…

EQ settings in Ableton
by Guest The Bro- 1 reply
Its a shame that one can't apply eq settings to actual individual tracks because I find that mp3s always tend to have some high knocked of them (unless they're 256 and upwards) and as a result usually require some extra hi eq and sometimes a track may even need a bass reduction. It'd be good to be able to link mp3s with certain eq settings just so they sound right. The alternative is just apply one's own eq settings and save the wav file although that's a bit of a fag. Certainly something I'd like to see as a feature for future Abletons with the compression in mp3s often being a problem.

'ello there. Following on from my previous thread I finally got the Edirol PCR-500 and it works like a charm. Solidly built (except the cross-fader which feels kinda flaky)..... The question is though, how the blooming 'eck do I get Ableton to listen to my CC changes. When I twiddle the dials Ableton recognises that there's a MIDI signal coming in (the Midi In light flashes away) but when you stick it on the MIDI-Learn mode, it just ignores the values being sent and therefore I can't assign any of the dials, sliders or buttons to anything.... It seems like it transmits properly. Albeton recognises the midi-notes, the mod and pitch wheel. It also recognises…

by Guest Coalbucket PI- 11 replies

So help me out here, Im feeling very threatened by all these components and my lack of experience and the fact I'm an idiot. I mean I can solder and follow instructions and be careful and all that but I don't really know what everything does... was sort of hoping to figure that out as I make it Anyone else whos made one or who knows about this kind of thing might be very useful to me. Please tell me anything I'm likely to fuck up so I can avoid it. I'm gonna be okay just following the manual on the site right? If you could tell me that everything will be fine and not to worry, that would be great too. I think I need to buy new a new soldering iron and multimeter…
