I liked his set. I wasn't expecting too much, because judging from vids of other gigs he isnt really being all active on stage; just dj'ing. It was too bad he didn't play any Tuss tracks but we got some classics and analord instead. The Hecker sounds did a great job and gave the set a different dimension. I stood somewhere in the middle and there the surround effects were great, so I dont know what other people are talking about. The scat vids werent really necessary. Too much shocking for shocking's sake if you ask me. Squarepusher was the best imo. He interacted with the audience a lot more and the live drums and bass were great and the visuals were all in sync with the music; very professional. So yeah, Aphex gets a good 2nd place if you ask me.

My guess is that the visuals were a joke that the Dutch perhaps weren't in on. In the UK, the Dutch (amongst other Germanics) have a reputation for an 'anything goes' attitude towards porn - Holland to the British is coffee shops, bicycles, and the sex industry.

Maybe an onstage screening of Animal Farm would have been taking it too far...

It's just taking the piss isn't it? Showing extreme shit whilst trying to create a gabber apocalpyse to try and get a reaction from the audience. It's just AFX pissing about and doing things for a laugh, not exactly for the first time either!

Squarepusher: Blew me away... much better sound than Manchester and a far better crowd, setting, atmos. Pity the set was very similar - fooled us with the new "Welcome to europe" opener.. but still i enjoyed it 100%

Ceephax: Hard to ebliev his little bro was playing right next door. classic set really

aphex Twin: Love the hecker stuff becasue it lends a completely trippy atmos to the set allowing aphex to push the alien-ness further and further. The visuals were amazing and the end ones were classic aphex - push the disturbingness to the extreme music wise and image wise. Just look away if you don't like! I just closed my eyes fro that one. Many peopel were horrified though RESULT

Did anyone spot "ethiopicques" mixed in to this set a little bit?

Anyway I have full squarepusher and aphex on video.. will be youtubing by the weekend and I'll extract the sound files too!

Highlight iof the weekend.. tripping my beans off: in the q-bioc hotel, amsterdamn on Friday - at the gig - then on the b&b provided-waterbed after Sat night with my italina/irish mates!

As good as bangface! Different but equally excellent!!

that granular synthesis thing was BY FAR the best thing I saw at the festival

none of the performing artists came even close to that

i hope to have pusher/aphex sets on-line by the weekend. Dunno what the quality is like yet but should be alright.

Having listened to aphex's bloc 09 set a good few times now I'm thinking the seemingly "disappointing" strp aphex set is a grower.... As usual..... the richness (excuse the pun).... takes time to envelope you......

The hecker stuff on bloc defo makes sense over time. the dolby stuff in Eindhoven was well tripppy and strange whch matched my mood perfectly. He first did this in Torino mixing in lots of hecker himself.....Pretty decent of him to get the man involved himself.

also the first 99% of visuals were so stunning that i can totally ignore the grosspot stuff at the end.. although i do appreciate the wicked humour involved

I've been told there were unpleasant visuals at Bloc too. Don't remember them at all though, too busy paying attention to the surround sound ;)

Looking forwards to hearing yr recording phudoshin

Well the squarepusher recording is perfect enough for me so the aphex one should pan out well when i sort it out later.....the pusher video is my usual shaky camera job........... not really worth youtubing. I look forward to the day we see a clean and crisp copy of the full Pusher show a-la Electric Proms... only with the drummer and his big screen....

Twas funny, i was standing right behind the control desk and the visuals guys were trying to block the raw grossout monitors from the ravers around them.....

I wonder if the granular synthesis thing was real. Like did they use software that really matched up the faces to the sound or did they just do that stuff to the face for effect. I guess it wouldn't be hard to do in jitter. Just wondering really
