well as long as we get some Syro in beforehand, it's not all doom and gloom

How exactly is this news? There's tons of reasons we could die any second, that's just one more on the list.

You can't do anything about it anyway, so why not enjoy the short time you do have, try to make it worthwhile, because it's likely the only chance you will get.

In other words, good morning everyone.

if it destroys the universe that would be pretty cool, a small weak fragile insignificant species destroys universe, that would be like if ants did something that destroyed earth.

Stephen Hawking has said a lot of doomsday crap. He also said that humanity will probably be wiped out by either a virus or nuclear war. He also hypotesized that, should an alien species come in contact with earth, it will be the end us all.

Guy loves his doomsday scenarios.

Not sure if he does this for the sake of publicity or not.

Well you know, put yourself in his chair and you might be wishing the world was ending every ten minutes as well.

Speaking in the preface to a new book called Starmus, Mr Hawking said: "The Higgs potential has the worrisome feature that it might become megastable at energies above 100bn giga-electron-volts (GeV).

He said a particle accelerator that reaches 100bn GeV would need to be larger than Earth and that would not "be funded in the present economic climate".

But anyway, if it would destroy the whole universe we would know about it because it would probably have already happened on one of the alien planets elsewhere in the universe

I think he just has too much spare time on his hands.

if all of humanity was to blink out in less than a nanosecond, quick and painless, it ultimately just wouldnt actually matter atall. this is actually, in its way, the least interesting thing ever.

Mr Hawking, 72, did say the likelihood of such a disaster is unlikely to happen in the near future.

He said a particle accelerator that reaches 100bn GeV would need to be larger than Earth and that would not "be funded in the present economic climate".

Shit's gonna be fine

We should start a kickstarter for Larger-Than-Earth Particle Accelerator.

Also, you want to be scared, how about gravity quakes. Or even a blast from a quasar or a near by supernova or roving black holes. Or closer to home like the Oort cloud, there be plenty of comets which are due to get tussled as we pass through the galactic plane.

Oh the pain, the pain, of the galactic plane.

The destruction of the universe due to the particle responsible for mass, huh? Oh well, no matter.
